Malanginspirasi.com – The escalating waste problem in Malang Raya is a pressing concern, with hundreds of tons of waste generated daily across Malang City, Malang Regency, and Batu City. In response to this growing crisis, the Malang Raya Branch Leadership of the Muhammadiyah Student Association (PC IMM) organized a Green Dialogue entitled “Our Plastic Today, Our Disaster Tomorrow?” on Sunday, June 15, 2025, at Kebun Rojo Camp Dau.
The event, attended by dozens of IMM cadres from across Malang Raya, commemorated World Environment Day, which fell on Thursday, June 5, 2025.
This initiative reflects IMM Malang Raya’s commitment to addressing environmental issues, particularly waste management.

Machmudi, a representative of the Environmental Council (MLH) of the Muhammadiyah Regional Leadership (PDM) of Batu City, and Coqi Basil, Head of the Trash Hero Tumapel Chapter, served as discussion leaders.
Machmudi revealed that the total waste generated in Malang Raya could reach over a thousand tons per day. He emphasized that this issue cannot be resolved through technical solutions alone, but requires a comprehensive regulatory approach and grassroots social movements.
He stressed the urgency of the problem, stating that Malang alone produces approximately 500 tons of waste daily. Machmudi proposed several key strategies to address the waste crisis.
First, the development of comprehensive regulations that consider not only environmental aspects but also health, social, and psychological factors. Second, the strengthening of social movements within communities, especially at the neighborhood level. Third, reducing the use of plastics in daily life.
Meanwhile, Coqi Basil praised the proactive efforts of PC IMM Malang Raya, noting that the organization is not only engaged with social and public policy issues but also demonstrates a strong commitment to environmental concerns.
“IMM Malang Raya is among the organizations that consistently facilitate discussions and actions on these topics. It is hoped that this dialogue will be followed up with concrete and sustainable initiatives, especially prioritizing collaboration across different sectors,” he expressed.

Following the dialogue, participants planted trees in the Kebun Rojo Camp area as a symbolic commitment to preserving forests and green spaces.
This act represents IMM Malang Raya’s tangible effort to contribute to the care and preservation of forest areas in Malang Raya, aiming to provide benefits for the survival of humans, animals, and the environment.
