Malanginspirasi.com – No requirements, no charges, just come and eat. That simple yet powerful concept drives Warung Makan Gratis Azzahra, a free-food initiative that continues to warm hearts in Malang.
On Tuesday morning, December 9 2025, the front yard of Bengkel Guyup Rukun on Jalan Soekarno Hatta No. 44 was packed from 08:00 with online motorcycle taxi drivers, university students, and passers-by.
They queued orderly as volunteers handed out hot meals.

Event coordinator Fahmi explained that the free-meal programme has now become a regular fixture, sometimes running five to six times a month.
“Alhamdulillah, it’s now a weekly event – meaning up to six times in a single month,” Fahmi said.
He cited growing public enthusiasm and an increasing number of volunteers as the main reasons for the higher frequency.
Each session serves more than 250 portions. Tuesday’s menu featured cecek and long bean stew, corn fritters, and refreshing es teler drinks. All prepared from scratch by the volunteer team a day in advance.
Fahmi emphasised that the initiative is open to everyone without exception.
“Our goal is simply to share goodness and bring benefit to as many people as possible. Anyone is welcome to come, eat, and drink here,” he said.
Social Care Among Communities
Despite the large scale, the entire operation runs on volunteer power alone. From preparation and cooking to serving and cleaning up.
For the volunteers, the greatest reward is seeing people enjoy their meals peacefully.
“Watching someone eat with real appetite – that’s the deepest satisfaction for us,” Fahmi added with a smile.

Warung Makan Gratis Azzahra has become a tangible example of social care in Malang. Not only providing food for those in need but also fostering a stronger sense of togetherness and mutual concern within the community.
The presence of dedicated volunteers and the enthusiastic turnout prove that even small acts of kindness can create meaningful, lasting impact.
