East Java Government Hosts Affordable Market in Malang to Stabilize Prices Ahead of Year-End Holidays

Malanginspirasi.com – The Provincial Government of East Java, through the Regional Coordination Agency (Bakorwil) III Malang, organized a two-day affordable market (pasar murah) on 20–21 November 2025 as part of the celebrations for East Java’s 80th anniversary under the theme “Jatim Tangguh, Terus Bertumbuh” (Resilient East Java, Keep Growing).

The event, held in the courtyard of Bakorwil III Malang at Jalan Ijen Simpang Ijen No. 2, Oro-Oro Dowo, is a strategic measure by the provincial government to maintain price stability for basic commodities ahead of the Christmas and New Year (Nataru) holidays.

Since early morning, the venue has been crowded with residents. Queues began forming densely from 09:30 WIB as people rushed to purchase daily necessities at prices significantly lower than regular market rates.

Affordable Basic Commodities Available

A wide range of staple goods were offered with generous daily quotas, including:

  • SPHP Rice: Rp55,000 per 5 kg (2 tons quota per day)
  • Premium Centar Rice: Rp73,000 per 5 kg (35 sacks quota per day)
  • Rojolele Rice: Rp64,000 per 5 kg (30 sacks quota per day)
  • Minyak Kita cooking oil: Rp15,000 per liter (144 liters quota per day)
  • Granulated sugar: Rp16,000 per kg (100 kg quota per day)
  • Chicken eggs: Rp24,000 per pack (100 packs quota per day)
  • Wheat flour: Rp10,000 per kg (20 kg quota)
  • Garlic: Rp8,000 per 250 grams (6 kg quota)
  • Shallots: Rp7,000 per 250 grams (6 kg quota)
Government Commitment to Controlling Inflation

Head of Bakorwil III Malang, Asep Kusdinar, emphasized that affordable markets are a regular government initiative held ahead of major holidays and religious celebrations.

“This affordable market is a routine agenda before national and religious holidays. We hope it helps ease the economic burden on local communities. The government is present to provide staple goods at the lowest retail prices possible in order to curb potential inflation,” Asep stated.

He highlighted the importance of such measures, especially during the Nataru period when prices of basic commodities typically surge.

“Prices of essential goods usually spike ahead of Christmas and New Year. This affordable market is a concrete step to keep prices stable and affordable for the public,” he added.

High Public Enthusiasm

The long queues reflected strong community interest. One resident from Oro-Oro Dowo, Titik, said the program has been very helpful for her household.

“Bakorwil often holds these affordable markets before big holidays. Today I’m buying rice, the price difference is quite significant,” she said.

Titik added that events like this greatly reduce household spending, especially when market prices start to rise.

Through this event, the East Java Provincial Government demonstrates a tangible commitment to protecting the community’s purchasing power and ensuring food stability during the festive season. While also make daily necessities more accessible to the public.
