Government Rice Reserves Hit Record 4.4 Million Tons, Fully Prepared for El Niño 2026

EN.malanginspirasi.com – The Government Rice Reserves (Cadangan Beras Pemerintah/CBP) managed by Perum Bulog has reached 4.4 million tons as of early April 2026, marking the highest level in history. The stockpile continues to grow rapidly thanks to massive rice absorption from farmers nationwide.

The government expects the reserves to hit 5 million tons within days, still in April 2026. Bulog’s President Director reported that the CBP stood at approximately 4.3 million tons at the end of March. Just days later, by April 3, the volume had climbed to 4.4 million tons — significantly higher than the 3.24 million tons recorded at the start of the year.

Despite the approaching 2026 El Niño phenomenon, dubbed “El Niño Godzilla” by officials, which is forecast to begin affecting Indonesia in April–May and last about six months, the government insists national rice supplies remain secure. The weather pattern is expected to prolong the dry season and potentially reduce paddy production in some regions.

Agriculture Minister Andi Amran Sulaiman stressed that total national rice reserves — including Bulog’s CBP, community stocks, and unharvested standing crops — are more than enough to meet demand for the next 10 to 15 months. This guarantees stable rice supply until early 2027, or at least March 2027, when the rainy season is expected to return to normal.

“Rice production during the El Niño period is estimated to stay at a minimum of 2 million tons per month. Therefore, supply remains well protected,” Minister Andi Amran stated in an official release at the end of March.

Bulog is continuing its aggressive farmer absorption program, on track to meet its full-year 2026 target of 4 million tons. The government is also reinforcing irrigation infrastructure, expanding pump irrigation programs, and distributing rice through price stabilization schemes and food assistance initiatives.

Overall, authorities are confident that the record-high CBP will safeguard national food security. The public is urged not to worry about rice availability, as Bulog stands ready to release stocks from its warehouses to the market whenever needed.
