Komdigi Blocks 3 Million Gambling Contents, Transactions Plunge 57%

EN.malanginspirasi.com – Indonesia’s Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs (Komdigi) has mounted one of its most aggressive campaigns yet against online gambling (known as judol), blocking more than 3.06 million pieces of illicit content by early March 2026.

The operation reflects a government determination to stem a social and economic crisis that has drained trillions of rupiah from households and ensnared thousands of young Indonesians in debt and addiction.

Minister Meutya Hafid described the effort as a national priority that goes far beyond simply deleting websites.

“We are not only blocking sites, but also cutting off the flow of money and educating the public,” she said in a recent official statement.

Multi-Layered Offensive

Komdigi’s strategy combines technology, inter-agency cooperation, and public participation.

Every day, ministry teams scan the internet and immediately block gambling websites, advertisements, mobile applications, and videos appearing on YouTube, TikTok, Instagram, and Telegram.

Between October 2024 and 1 March 2026, a total of 3,069,705 gambling-related items were removed. In 2025 alone, nearly 2.7 million contents were taken down.

The ministry has also forged rapid-response agreements with global platforms including Google, Meta, and TikTok, requiring the removal of gambling material within hours of detection. Promotional ads on social media are deleted almost as soon as they appear.

Beyond content, Komdigi systematically reports bank accounts used by gambling operators to the Financial Transaction Reports and Analysis Centre (PPATK). The results have been dramatic: online gambling transactions fell 57 percent in 2025, dropping from Rp 359 trillion to Rp 155 trillion, while numerous accounts have been frozen.

Regular cyber patrols also target official government and regional websites that have been infiltrated by gambling advertisements; any discovered links are promptly removed after warnings are issued.

Citizens are encouraged to join the campaign. Reports can be submitted through the dedicated portal aduankonten.id, via WhatsApp at 0811-9224-545, or through the chatbot 0811-1001-5080.

Officials say every additional report accelerates enforcement.

Human Cost Drives Urgency

Authorities emphasise that the stakes are far higher than lost revenue. Online gambling has destroyed families, driven young people into crippling debt, and been linked to several suicides.

Komdigi’s goal is to shield the most vulnerable, especially the younger generation, from an industry that adapts quickly by constantly changing domain names and platforms.

Looking ahead to the rest of 2026, the ministry plans to invest in more advanced detection technology and deepen international cooperation to stay ahead of increasingly sophisticated operators.

With the combination of relentless blocking, financial disruption, and community involvement already showing measurable results, Komdigi’s campaign stands as one of the most comprehensive efforts yet to reclaim Indonesia’s digital space from illegal gambling.
