EN.malanginspirasi.com – Indonesia’s Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs, Meutya Hafid, led a surprise inspection (sidak) at Meta’s operational office in Jakarta on Wednesday, March 4, 2026. The move comes as a direct response to the platform’s persistently low compliance in addressing online gambling content and disinformation, defamation, and hatred (collectively referred to as DFK).
Meutya was accompanied by a high-level delegation, including Director General of Digital Space Oversight at Komdigi Irjen Pol Alexander Sabar, BIN Deputy VI Irjen Pol Heri Armanto Sutikno, BSSN Deputy for Cyber Security and Government Cryptography Sulistyo, Assistant Deputy for Cyber Security Prevention and Capacity Building at Kemenkopolhukam Marsma TNI Budi Eko Pratomo, TNI Satsiber Content Control Commander Colonel Adm Gusti Sopyannur, and Bareskrim Polri Kombes Pol Dadan Wira Laksana.
Government monitoring data shows Meta’s compliance rate in following up on detected online gambling and DFK content stands at just 28.47%—one of the lowest among major social media platforms operating in Indonesia.
This figure is particularly concerning given Meta’s massive user base in the country, with approximately 112 million active users each on Facebook and WhatsApp.
During the inspection, Minister Meutya emphasized the real-world dangers posed by delayed or inadequate content moderation.
“These DFK contents threaten the lives of Indonesian society, yet Meta can casually allow it,” she stated firmly.
The government views the tolerance of such material as a trigger for social division, erosion of democracy, and heightened polarization that jeopardizes public order.
The action draws on the authority granted by Article 40 of Law No. 1 of 2024 (the Second Amendment to the Electronic Information and Transactions Law, or UU ITE), which empowers the state to prevent and handle unlawful electronic information.
Meutya underscored that all electronic system providers operating in Indonesia must fully comply with national regulations and bear complete responsibility for digital space security.
Through this high-profile visit, the government formally demanded that Meta immediately strengthen its content moderation systems and dramatically accelerate the removal of all illegal and harmful material, including online gambling, health disinformation, digital fraud, and sexual exploitation content.
