Police Hunt Four Trained Attackers in Acid Assault on Indonesian Human Rights Activist Andrie Yunus

EN.malanginspirasi.com – Indonesian police are still searching for the perpetrators of a vicious acid assault on prominent human rights activist Andrie Yunus. As of Monday afternoon, no suspects have been arrested, but investigators have uncovered critical evidence pointing to four trained individuals who used two motorcycles and had been tailing the victim from the start.

In a press conference on Monday, 16 March 2026, Director of Criminal Investigation for Metro Jaya Regional Police (Polda Metro Jaya), Kombes Pol Iman Imanuddin, said the attackers appeared calm and highly professional.

“They waited for Andrie Yunus in front of KFC Cikini after he finished recording a podcast at the Indonesian Legal Aid Foundation (YLBHI) office. They then followed him past Monas, Tugu Tani, Gambir Station, and the Cikini gas station before launching the attack on Jalan Salemba I–Talang at approximately 23:37 WIB on Thursday, 12 March 2026,” Kombes Iman explained.

“The perpetrators showed remarkable composure in their movements. After the assault, the two motorcycles fled in opposite directions — one toward Senen and South Jakarta, the other toward Matraman and East Jakarta,” he added.

Police Recover Attacker’s Helmet and Analyze 2,600 CCTV Clips

Police have gathered exceptionally strong evidence, analyzing footage from 86 CCTV points along the entire route, including recordings from the ETLE system, Diskominfotik, the Transportation Agency, and private citizens. In total, investigators reviewed more than 2,600 video clips.

A key breakthrough came when officers recovered a helmet believed to belong to one of the attackers on Jalan Salemba I (the escape route toward Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital).

The helmet is now undergoing forensic examination at the National Police forensic laboratory for fingerprints and DNA. Police are also tracing the license plates of the motorcycles used in the crime.

Seven witnesses have already been questioned. The case has now entered the full investigation phase, handled by a joint team from Central Jakarta Police, Metro Jaya Regional Police, and the National Police Criminal Investigation Agency (Bareskrim).

Andrie Yunus is still receiving intensive treatment at Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital (RSCM) for second-degree burns covering 24% of his body, affecting his face, eyes, chest, and both hands.
