en.malanginspirasi.com – On the anniversary of the 1928 Youth Pledge, university students and activists gathered at Bundaran Hotel Indonesia in central Jakarta under the banner of #IndonesiaSadar movement, calling for concrete action on forest fires, economic inequality, corruption, civil liberties, and human rights.
Organizers from groups including BEM UI framed the demonstration as a continuation of the spirit of the Sumpah Pemuda, which once united young Indonesians across ethnic and regional lines in the struggle for independence. Protesters argued that the same generation today must confront ongoing environmental destruction, widening economic gaps, graft, and restrictions on rights and freedoms.
Thousands of demonstrators marched through the area, some arriving by public minibuses, while sharing messages of mutual protection and peaceful solidarity.

Chants and placards linked historical ideals of unity and justice to contemporary grievances, particularly the recurring haze from forest and land fires, persistent inequality, and concerns over accountability and civil rights.
As of late afternoon, the demonstration continued under close monitoring.
Organizers and participants stressed that the rally was an expression of civic responsibility rather than confrontation, seeking to keep the focus on the issues they say demand urgent national attention.
