Hajj 2026: First Indonesian Pilgrims Depart April 22 Despite Regional Tensions

EN.malanginspirasi.com – The Indonesian Ministry of Hajj and Umrah (Kemenhaj RI) has officially unveiled the national departure and operational schedule for the 1447 Hijri/2026 M Hajj season, confirming that the first wave of pilgrims will begin flying out on 22 April 2026.

Pilgrims are scheduled to start entering Hajj dormitories (asrama haji) across all embarkation cities one day earlier, on 21 April 2026. The announcement comes as operational readiness approaches 100 percent, even as geopolitical tensions in the Middle East remain elevated.

According to the official Hajj Travel Itinerary (RPH) jointly issued by Kemenhaj and the Hajj Financial Management Agency (BPKH), the entire national operation will run until the final return flight on 1 July 2026.

Minister of Hajj and Umrah Mochamad Irfan Yusuf stressed that the timeline remains unchanged as of late March 2026.

“We continue to monitor the Umrah situation, which is proceeding normally, as our main reference,” he said.

Detailed 2026 Hajj Timeline

The RPH outlines the following key phases for all Indonesian pilgrims:

  • 21 April 2026 (4 Dzulqaidah 1447 H): Pilgrims begin entering Hajj dormitories at embarkation points nationwide, including Jakarta, Surabaya, Solo, Padang, Makassar and other regional airports.
  • 22 April – 6 May 2026 (5–19 Dzulqaidah 1447 H): First wave (Gelombang 1) departs for Madinah via Prince Muhammad bin Abdul Aziz International Airport.
  • 7 May – 21 May 2026 (20 Dzulqaidah – 4 Dzulhijjah 1447 H): Second wave (Gelombang 2) flies directly to Jeddah via King Abdul Aziz International Airport. The final departure gate closes at 24:00 Saudi Arabia time on 21 May.
  • 25 May 2026: Pilgrims move from Makkah to Arafah.
  • 26 May 2026 (9 Dzulhijjah 1447 H): Wukuf at Arafah – the spiritual pinnacle of the Hajj.
  • 27 May 2026 (10 Dzulhijjah 1447 H): Eid al-Adha 1447 H.
  • 1 June – 1 July 2026: Gradual repatriation begins, with Gelombang 1 returning first from 1 June, followed by Gelombang 2.

The schedule applies uniformly across the country but will be fine-tuned according to each embarkation city and the two designated airlines, Garuda Indonesia and Saudia Airlines. Detailed flight group (kloter) assignments by province will be released closer to April.

Near-Complete Readiness and Pilgrim Guidance

Kemenhaj reported that visa processing, accommodation, transportation, health-risk mitigation and security arrangements are all approaching full readiness as of March 2026. Indonesia’s regular Hajj quota stands at 203,320 pilgrims, distributed proportionally among provinces.

For prospective pilgrims, entry into the asrama haji marks the final stage of preparation, including last health screenings, group assignments and final manasik (Hajj ritual briefings). Families and drivers are advised to check exact embarkation schedules through their local Ministry of Religious Affairs office.

Although hot weather is forecast in Saudi Arabia, the late-April departure window is expected to give pilgrims sufficient time to acclimatize before the Arafah climax.

The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) and Kemenhaj are jointly monitoring weather patterns and regional developments. Pilgrims are urged to complete their mandatory vaccinations and their physical and mental preparations as early as possible.
