KCIC Slams Passenger Who Blocked Whoosh Automatic Door, Delaying Hundreds of Travelers

EN.Malanginspirasi.com – A passenger aboard the Kereta Cepat Whoosh (KCIC) was recorded by CCTV forcibly holding an automatic door that had already begun closing at Padalarang Station, West Bandung Regency, West Java, on Tuesday, April 7, 2026. The incident delayed the departure of the Padalarang–Halim service by two minutes, pushing the scheduled 07:23 WIB departure to 07:25 WIB.

According to PT Kereta Cepat Indonesia China (KCIC), the widely circulated action not only violated safety regulations. But also interfered with the train’s automatic door sensor system. As a result, the door-closing process was disrupted, preventing the train from departing until the system was manually reset and stabilized.

The passenger later admitted that he held the door after realizing he had left his belongings on the platform.

KCIC’s General Manager of Corporate Secretary, Eva Chairunisa, issued a strong condemnation of the incident.

“We strongly condemn the passenger’s action of holding the train door. Besides violating regulations, this behavior has the potential to damage our facilities and causes losses for hundreds of other passengers due to the delayed departure,” Eva said in a written statement on Friday, April 10, 2026.

Operational and Technical Impact

The Whoosh high-speed train uses advanced sliding automatic doors based on CR400 technology, equipped with sophisticated obstruction sensors. When the door is forcibly held, the sensors immediately detect the obstruction. The safety interlock system then activates, preventing the train from moving until all doors are fully closed and locked. This triggers a fault signal that requires staff to perform a re-check and system reset.

KCIC emphasized that any manual intervention like this prevents the automatic closing system from functioning optimally.

“Forcibly holding the door causes the automatic closing system to malfunction and carries the risk of long-term damage to our rolling stock,” Eva added.

In the short term, the action caused an immediate delay. Although only two minutes, such delays have a cascading effect on a busy high-speed corridor, impacting subsequent train schedules and overall operations. For the hundreds of other passengers, the consequences included lost time, missed connecting transport, and collective economic losses.

In the long term, repeated pressure on the door actuators, rubber seals, and mechanical components can accelerate wear and tear. If left unaddressed, this could lead to door misalignment, reduced aerodynamic performance, and significantly higher maintenance costs for the expensive fleet.

KCIC described the risk as “highly likely to damage facilities,” even though a single incident may not cause permanent harm.

Sanctions and Appeals from KCIC

The passenger involved has already received a stern verbal warning from KCIC staff. As of now, no further sanctions—such as fines or blacklisting—have been announced. However, KCIC stressed that similar actions could result in violations of railway regulations and penalties under applicable laws.

Eva Chairunisa urged all passengers to always check their belongings before boarding and to follow staff instructions.

“Left-behind items can be handled through KCIC’s Lost and Found service. There is no justification for holding the train door under any circumstances,” she asserted.

KCIC has also placed additional staff on platforms to prevent similar incidents from recurring.
