Viral Video of President Prabowo Watching Poor Villagers Eat Sparks Outrage on X

en.malanginspirasi.com –  A 28-second video clip from an event in Bogor on June 3, 2026, has gone viral on platform X (formerly Twitter) as President Prabowo Subianto and other officials are seen observing villagers from a poor area in Desa Win eating simple meals.

In the footage,  the leaders’ table are full of lavish cuisines as it sparked heated debates among X users.

The video was part of the promotion for the government’s Free Nutritious Meals Program (MBG), aimed at serving 83 million schoolchildren and pregnant women to combat stunting and support rural economies.

However, the stark contrast between the officials’ gourmet food and the villagers’ modest meals has drawn sharp criticism from netizens.

They labeled it as “poverty porn” or exploiting poverty for political image-building.

The event was intended to highlight the success of the program in remote areas.

Supporters argue it underscores the struggles of poor communities and the need for government intervention.

However, amid Indonesia’s poverty rate of around 8.5 percent and widening inequality, many X users viewed the scene as insensitive and inappropriate.

Some notable comments on X:

“This isn’t promoting the program, it’s showcasing poverty while enjoying luxury.”

“Poor villagers turned into a spectacle, while officials relax in the background.”

On the other hand, the presidential palace and Prabowo’s supporters emphasize the president’s commitment to eradicating poverty through various food programs, including food self-sufficiency and nutritious meal distribution.

MBG was a key campaign promise by Prabowo.

Despite criticisms regarding its costs and reports of food poisoning incidents in some areas, the government continues to push the initiative as a major effort to reduce malnutrition.
