In his opening remarks, Prabowo emphasized that his visit to West Kalimantan was intended to observe the actual conditions on the ground firsthand and to receive a report on the current situation.
“I have come to see the actual local conditions. Now, I ask: who can give me a presentation on the situation?” he said.
During the presentation on the current situation, an expert advisor to the Head of the National Agency for Disaster Countermeasure (BNPB), retired Brigadier General Asrianus Bulo, presented the results of satellite-based hotspot monitoring conducted over the past 24 hours.
The monitoring detected 198 hotspots with a high confidence level in the West Kalimantan region.
Additionally, Bulo reported the presence of 3,100 hotspots with a medium confidence level and 406 with a low confidence level.
He noted that these hotspots were primarily distributed across several regencies in the southern and eastern parts of West Kalimantan.
“We report that these hotspots are predominantly located in the Ketapang, Kubu Raya, and North Kayong Regencies within the southern sector. Additionally, hotspots are present in the eastern region, specifically in Sanggau, Sintang, and Sambas Regencies,” he explained.
The meeting also addressed the rainfall forecast for West Kalimantan. Monitoring indicates a likelihood of light rain, particularly in the eastern part of West Kalimantan, between August 21 and August 27, 2026.
The government had previously conducted weather modification operations (OMC) from August 11 to August 18, 2026. Those operations were temporarily suspended due to a lack of suitable cloud cover.
“We have since consulted with the BMKG, and the forecast indicates that cloud potential will emerge between the 23rd and the 27th; therefore, we will proceed with weather modification operations,” stated Bulo.
