Danbrigif 18/Trisula Opens National Taekwondo Championship Seroja Cup 2025

Malanginspirasi.com – The Commander of the 18th Trisula Infantry Brigade (Danbrigif 18/Trisula), Colonel Inf. Risa Wahyu Pudji Setyawan, BS., M.Han, officially inaugurated the Seroja Cup 2025 National Taekwondo Championship on Saturday (26/4/2025). The two-day event (26–27 April 2025) was held in commemoration of the 64th anniversary of Kostrad (Army Strategic Command) and as a platform to scout talented athletes with potential in national and international competitions.

A total of 472 athletes from 30 contingents across Java and Bali participated in the championship. Colonel Wahyu explained that the Seroja Cup 2025 marks the first edition held in honor of the 64th anniversary of Kostrad’s 2nd Infantry Division. “In the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI), tactical martial arts draw from various disciplines across Indonesia, including taekwondo,” he stated.

The name “Seroja” is derived from Operation Seroja, Indonesia’s military campaign in East Timor (1975–1976) during the unification of the archipelago. Wahyu expressed hope that the championship would produce outstanding athletes. “Trisula is envisioned as a crucible for Indonesian taekwondo, shaping the character of the younger generation in the era of globalization through ethics, fighting spirit, and dedication,” he emphasized.

He also highlighted the importance of character development. “Taekwondo athletes must adapt to modern challenges and serve as national ambassadors on the international stage, like Evandra, a top U-17 scorer who emerged from this program,” he added.

The championship was conducted in both outdoor and indoor formats to train athletes in adapting to diverse conditions. “The goal is to ensure they remain resilient in facing challenges,” Wahyu explained.

In his closing remarks, the Brigade Commander urged all participants to uphold sportsmanship and carry the spirit of taekwondo into their daily lives. “The next generation must be resilient, dedicated, and unyielding,” he concluded.

The event underscored the military’s commitment to fostering athletic excellence and national pride through martial arts.
