Malanginspirasi.com – The Arts and Crafts Subject Teachers’ Consultation Forum (MGMP Seni Budaya dan Prakarya) of Malang City successfully organized a lively Music and Dance Performance themed ‘Metamorphosis: Transformation Beyond Limits’ (Metamorfosa: Transformasi di Luar Batas). The event took place at the Multi Purpose Area on the 4th Floor of the Malang Creative Centre (MCC) on Wednesday, December 17, 2025.
Student Performances Highlight the Second Day
The performance was a continuation of the previous day’s activities held on Tuesday, December 16, 2025, which featured music and dance shows by teachers.
In contrast, the second day focused primarily on performances by students from various junior high schools (SMP) across Malang City.
A diverse array of artistic presentations were delivered in rotation, including:
- Tari Lengjilengbeh by SMPN 1 Malang
- Tari Remo Asri Kusuma by SMP Mardiwiyata
- Tari Bang-bang Wetan by SMPN 30 Malang
- A solo singing performance from SMP Mardiwiyata
- Tari Ratoeh Jaroe by SMP IT Insan Permata
- Tari Jejer Jaran Dawuk by SMPN 8 Malang
The atmosphere grew even more vibrant with an enthusiastic jamming band performance by teachers, which received warm applause from the audience.

Spotlight on Tari Remo Asri Kusuma
One standout performance that captured attention was Tari Remo Asri Kusuma, presented by students from SMP Mardiwiyata.
The dance coach, Dirgan Grudowaringin, explained that this was his original creation.
“I created this work back when I was involved in the university’s extracurricular activity (UKM) at Universitas Negeri Malang (UM). The UKM was called Sanggar Tari Karawitan Asri Kusuma,” she said.

Unlike the traditional Tari Remo, which typically depicts a warrior prince on the battlefield, Tari Remo Asri Kusuma introduces a new meaning by portraying figures as fighters in education.
“In Remo Asri Kusuma, I interpret the ‘warriors’ as champions of education. It represents a formation of educational fighters who aim to preserve culture as the nation’s ancestral heritage,” she explained.
Dirgan added that the core message conveyed through this dance is the readiness of arts practitioners to face the changes of the times without losing their identity. Advances in technology and external cultural influences are embraced openly, but without displacing deeply rooted cultural values.
Although Tari Remo is characteristically associated with male warrior figures, Dirgan emphasized that this dance can be performed by female dancers. However, the movements retain a bold and firm style, in line with the spirited essence of warrior-like traits typical of Tari Remo.

Celebration and Support
Overall, the music and dance performance ran successfully and with great enthusiasm. The participants’ and audience’s excitement demonstrated the immense potential of arts and culture among students, while underscoring the importance of creative expression spaces in education.
The event concluded with a podcast session featuring one of the sponsors, Pegadaian Malang Branch.
During the session, Pegadaian Malang’s Relation Officer, Herlin, expressed appreciation for the activities organized by MGMP Seni Budaya dan Prakarya Kota Malang.

She viewed the event as highly positive, providing a platform for students to showcase their artistic works while strengthening character education through arts and culture.
“Events like this deserve support because they offer space for the younger generation to display national creations, while fostering a love for arts and culture from an early age,” she stated.
Through the “Metamorfosa”-themed activities, MGMP Seni Budaya dan Prakarya Kota Malang not only presented artistic performances but also reaffirmed a collective commitment to supporting adaptive and creative educational transformation, firmly rooted in local cultural values.
