Malanginspirasi.com – The Musyawarah Guru Mata Pelajaran (MGMP) for Arts, Culture, and Crafts in Malang City organized a Music and Dance Performance by Malang Arts Teachers, themed ‘Metamorphosis: Transformation Beyond Limits’ (Metamorfosa: Transformasi di Luar Batas)
The two-day event, open to the public, took place on Tuesday and Wednesday, December 16-17, 2025, at the Multi Purpose Area on the 4th floor of the Malang Creative Center (MCC).
Participants included representatives from State Junior High Schools (SMP Negeri) 1 through 30 in Malang City, as well as students from private schools such as SMP Gracia Nusantara.

Platform for Expression and Networking
The event served as a space for artistic expression and networking among arts and crafts teachers across Malang.
Event chairman Azizil Alim, S.Pd., explained that the primary goal was to appreciate the artistic works created by the teachers.
“This event is designed as a form of appreciation for artistic works in visual arts, music, and dance. We also want to prove to students that their teachers are capable of producing and performing extraordinary artworks,” he said in his opening remarks.
Azizil added that the event aimed to strengthen bonds among arts, culture, and crafts teachers in the city.

Theme Inspired by Nature
The ‘Metamorphosis’ theme drew inspiration from the dragonfly’s life cycle, symbolizing environmental cleanliness.
Azizil hoped the theme would encourage teachers and students to love the arts while caring for the environment.
One highlight was the Rengku Aksara dance, a creation by Malang arts teachers that won Second Runner-Up at the National Teachers’ Day commemoration in Surabaya.
Choreographed by Ilung from SMP Negeri 5 Malang, the dance was performed by dancers from various schools.
Special Band Performance
The event also featured the MGMP Arts and Culture Teachers’ Band, performing a mix of regional songs and popular hits across generations.
Songs included traditional tunes like Cublak-Cublak Suweng, Rek Ayo Rek, Soleram, and Apuse, alongside popular tracks such as Sinaran (Sheila Majid), Cinta (Vina Panduwinata), Kopi Dangdut (Vita Alvia), and Terbuang dalam Waktu (Barasuara).
Despite limited rehearsal time due to teaching commitments, the band’s performance remained harmonious and professional.

The event was further enlivened by a visual arts exhibition showcasing teachers’ works.
Fitri Fazihatul Asmiyah from SMP Negeri 26 Malang, one of the exhibiting artists, emphasized the importance of such events for appreciation and developing aesthetic sensitivity.
She explained that her artwork symbolized metamorphosis as a return to God. It also representing transformation from worldly attachments to eternal spiritual values, depicted through natural elements and butterflies symbolizing worldly beauty.

Malang City Education Office Head Suwarjana, S.E., M.M., attended and expressed his appreciation.
