en.malanginspirasi.com –  Indonesia netizens poured online reactions on X  in quickly,  by sarcasm, memes, and expressions of doubt that highlighted a perceived gap between Indonesian government optimism and the realities of economy crisis among ordinary Indonesians and investors.

Top Indonesian economic officials gathered at Istana Merdeka on Monday evening to brief President Prabowo Subianto on what they described as resilient macroeconomic fundamentals, even as the Jakarta Composite Index (IHSG) continued to reel from sharp losses triggered by an MSCI classification warning.

Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto, Finance Minister Suahasil Nazara, Bank Indonesia Governor Destry Damayanti, and OJK Chair Friderica Widyasari Dewi attended the limited meeting.

In a subsequent press briefing, Airlangga emphasized that “the macroeconomic conditions remain relatively stable” amid global challenges. Discussions covered economic growth, inflation targets, the health of the banking sector, investment realization through September 2026, and efforts to boost exports, particularly in manufacturing, by removing bottlenecks through a presidential task force.

Suahasil Nazara reported that the state budget (APBN) continues to function effectively despite global uncertainties, including elevated inflation pressures in the United States and Europe.

He stressed that both macroeconomic indicators and public transaction activity remain “very resilient,” with the government focused on maintaining stability while supporting growth for the remainder of 2026.

Officials also highlighted ongoing capital market reforms and enforcement actions against violations, aiming to restore investor confidence and strengthen governance and transparency.

The reassurances come after the IHSG suffered one of its steepest declines in decades. On October 16, the index plunged more than 8 percent at one point, triggering a temporary trading halt, largely in response to MSCI’s early announcement opening consultation on potentially reclassifying Indonesia’s market from Emerging Market to Standalone status.

Concerns centered on implementation of reforms related to free-float requirements, ownership transparency, and alleged coordinated trading. The rupiah has also faced pressure, trading near or above Rp18,000 per US dollar.

Officials have repeatedly distinguished between short-term market sentiment and stronger underlying economic fundamentals.

Netizens React with Sarcasm and Skepticism on X

One widely shared post captured the mood.

“Airlangga & Suahasil lapor ke Prabowo: ‘stabil, resilien, solid, inflasi terkendali, APBN on track’. Di sini gue cuma bisa ngangguk-ngangguk sambil ngeliat saldo yang lagi sedih berat. Mungkin emang cuma gue doang yang ekonominya struggle? Atau indikator mereka beda: mereka ngeliat makro, gue ngeliat sisa duit di rekening.” (Translation: Airlangga & Suahasil report to Prabowo: “stable, resilient, solid…” Here I can only nod while looking at my balance that’s heavily sad. Maybe it’s just me struggling, or their indicators are different—they look at the macro, I look at what’s left in my account.)

Others pointed to the sharp IHSG drop and lingering effects on prices and confidence, questioning whether the official narrative fully addressed market realities and everyday economic pressures.

Some users circulated memes juxtaposing polished official statements with falling stock charts and a weakening rupiah, while others expressed frustration over the disconnect between reported stability and the tangible impact on household budgets and investor sentiment.

Despite the market turbulence, authorities continue to stress coordination among the government, Bank Indonesia, and OJK to safeguard financial stability and deepen the capital market.

Whether these assurances will calm markets and restore broader public confidence remains to be seen in the coming sessions.
