Governor Khofifah Ensures Safe Eid Homecoming: Free Ships Replace Risky Motorcycle Trips

EN.malanginspirasi.com – East Java Governor Khofifah Indar Parawansa officially sent off 3,000 participants of the free Mudik-Balik Eid (homecoming and return) program by sea at Jangkar Port, Situbondo, on Sunday, March 15, 2026.

With a single siren blast, the ships set sail, carrying the hopes of residents eager to celebrate Eid Al-Fitr holiday on Raas Island and Sapudi Island in Sumenep.

Khofifah understands that mudik is more than just a physical journey—it’s a profound emotional tradition for migrants. That’s why the government steps in to ensure economic barriers don’t prevent families from reuniting.

“Safe mudik, happy Eid holiday. May your entire journey be smooth, safe, and arrive without incident,” Khofifah said, while sending warm regards to families on the islands.

Reducing Motorcycle Homecoming Risks

Technically, the service consists of 12 sailing trips during the 2026 Eid period. Each departure can carry 250 passengers and 100 motorcycles.

This strategy is deliberately designed to lower the risk of accidents for those who recklessly travel long distances by motorcycle. Beyond sea routes, the East Java Provincial Government has also allocated a total of 9,320 additional free mudik quotas via land using buses from Surabaya and Jakarta.

Fatimah (45), one of the travelers heading to Raas Island, couldn’t hide her gratitude. For her, this regular program is a real lifesaver for family finances.

“The registration process is easy and it really helps cut costs. I hope this program continues every year,” she shared just before boarding the ship.

Safety remains the top priority. The Governor urged port authorities and ship crews to stay vigilant and ensure optimal maritime safety standards are met, so the joyful Eid moment isn’t disrupted by technical issues at sea.
