en.malanginspirasi.com – The International Community Service Program (KKN) Learning with the Community (BBK) and Independent Campus (Kampus Merdeka) involved 27 UNAIR students traveling to Shijiazhuang Tiedao University (STDU), Hebei Province, China, undertaking a four-month community service and academic program starting in July 2026.
This strategic collaboration between UNAIR and STDU focuses on three main pillars: cultural exchange, technological research, and community service based on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
During their time in China, the students got exposures to various comprehensive activities.
One of them was the Chinese Tie Dye class, a traditional Chinese fabric dyeing art that teaches the philosophy of precision, patience, and the value of sustainability.
They also had the opportunity to visit the state-of-the-art High Speed Laboratory at STDU to learn firsthand about China’s advanced high-speed rail system.
This activity aligns with the achievement of SDGs 9 related to Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure.
The Dean of the International College of Education at Tiedao University, Prof. Hu Zhinan, warmly welcomed the UNAIR delegation.

He highly appreciated the enthusiasm and contributions of Indonesian students in academic and social activities.
Along with the Chinese government, he stated that STDU, is very open to international students including those from Indonesia.
“We greatly appreciate the contribution of UNAIR students. Discussions on sustainable transportation and the environment are highly relevant to STDU’s vision. We hope this collaboration can continue into joint research and lecturer and student exchanges,” said Prof. Hu Zhinan.
Furthermore, Prof. Hu Zhinan explained that STDU has various excellent study programs ready to accommodate international students.
For the undergraduate program (S1), majors include civil engineering, electrical engineering, mechatronics engineering, computer science, information technology, business administration, management and economics, and Mandarin.
Meanwhile, the Master’s program (S2) offers majors in civil engineering, electrical engineering, and business administration.
For the Doctoral program (S3), STDU offers flagship programs such as civil engineering, traffic and transportation engineering, mechanical engineering, mechatronics engineering, and science and management engineering.
Echoing the Dean, the Director of the International Student Education Department of STDU, Dr. Li Jiangfeng, stated that his institution is very open to students and academics from various countries.
STDU collaborates with the Chinese Government to provide various scholarship schemes, ranging from partial to fully funded.
In addition to studying at STDU, UNAIR students also undertake academic visits to Beijing Language and Culture University (BLCU) and Tsinghua University, and explore the transformation of modern art at the 798 Art Museum in Beijing.
Concrete action on the ground is also demonstrated through community development, such as a cleanup of the Hutuo River with local students to support SDGs 6 on Clean Water and Proper Sanitation.
Also, education on cultural heritage preservation and sustainable tourism management based on the Green Campus was also provided through visits to the Great Wall of China and the Ancient City of Zhengding.
The Field Supervisor (DPL) of Airlangga University who accompanied the students to China, Yutika Amelia, Ph.D., stated that this program provides a strategic platform for students to become cultural ambassadors and global learners.
”We hope that every small step abroad will have a real impact on strengthening the Green Campus and achieving the SDGs in Indonesia,” said Yutika.
One of the International KKN participants, Attalla Guni Ramadhan, also expressed his pride.
This UNAIR student expressed gratitude for being able to experience the academic and technological atmosphere in China firsthand.
“There is a lot of new knowledge about culture, technology, and how they manage their campus that we can adapt at UNAIR,” he said enthusiastically.
Santy, the activity facilitator, expressed her appreciation.
“Thank you to Airlangga University for entrusting us, Santy and Bagus, with the International Community Service Program in China. This is a testament to their trust and our quality. We hope this activity will strengthen collaboration between the two countries in the fields of culture, education, research, and community service,” she explained.
Echoing Santy’s sentiments, Bagus, also one of the program facilitators, stated that his institution strongly supports the internationalization of various campuses in Indonesia.
“Thank God, thank you to Airlangga University for trusting us. We hope this will be beneficial for all parties as we are also very open to all institutions in Indonesia that are interested.”
“Here, we are implementing similar programs in various countries around the world. As Ms. Santy mentioned earlier, we hope our small support can strengthen Indonesian education,” he concluded.
The International Community Service Program officially closed with a presentation of student community service results and a closing speech from STDU.
Through this momentum, 27 UNAIR students can build a strong long-term collaboration between UNAIR and STDU in the fields of education, research, and sustainable development.
