Officers then apprehended HS, who had fled previously, at a minimarket in the Bandungrejosari area.

Investigators conducted further investigations and discovered that the two perpetrators had committed motor vehicle thefts in at least five different locations.

According to the investigation, the thefts occurred from January to June 2026, primarily targeting motorcycles parked in boarding houses.

Of the five stolen vehicles, three were Honda Beats, one was a Honda Scoopy, and one was a Yamaha Aerox.

The thefts occurred in several areas of Malang City, including the Samaan, Pandanwangi, and Sawojajar sub-districts, as well as several other boarding houses considered to have low levels of surveillance.

Riyan explained that the perpetrators’ modus operandi was relatively simple.

They searched for boarding houses and residential areas with minimal surveillance before stealing vehicles that lacked additional security or were not properly locked.

“The perpetrators targeted vehicles that were relatively easy to steal, especially motorcycles parked without adequate security. This serves as a reminder to the public to always use double locks and to be more vigilant when parking their vehicles,” he explained.

The investigation revealed that two stolen motorcycles had been successfully sold through marketplace platforms and online.

From these sales, the two perpetrators made a profit of approximately IDR 6 million, which they then used to cover daily expenses, including housing costs.

According to her, the investigation into this case aimed not only to apprehend the perpetrators but also as a preventative measure to reduce the number of motor vehicle thefts, which remain a dominant crime in urban areas.

“We are committed to providing a sense of security to the public by responding quickly to every crime report. Solving this case is a form of protection for residents and an effort to maintain a safe and conducive public order and security situation in Malang City,” she emphasized.

For their actions, the two suspects are being charged under Article 476 of Law Number 1 of 2023 concerning the Criminal Code (KUHP), which concerns the crime of theft, which carries a maximum prison sentence of five years.

Polsek Sukun urge the public to remain vigilant in safeguarding their private vehicles, especially in boarding houses and densely populated residential areas.

If they see any suspicious activity, please contact the National Police hotline at 110 or Jogo Malang Presisi at 08111272000.
