Menhub Emphasizes on Safety Aspects after The Train Collision at Bekasi

en.malanginspirasi.com – Transportation Minister (Menhub) Dudy Purwagandhi stated that the Ministry of Transportation (Kemenhub) is emphasizing safety as the top priority following the KRL and Argo Bromo Anggrek train collision at Bekasi.

He mentioned the statement in reopening East Bekasi Station and resuming electric rail (KRL) services

He explained that the National Transportation Safety Committee (KNKT), the party responsible for the investigation, is currently undergoing clearance.

“Once we receive clearance from the KNKT this afternoon, we will reopen Greater Jakarta (Jabodetabek) KRL services from Cikarang and East Bekasi. We are currently in the preparation phase, testing the tracks, signaling, and so on. The most important thing that must be considered is safety,” said Minister Dudy during a press conference at East Bekasi Station on Wednesday, April 29th.

Furthermore,  Dudy also provided updates on the handling and rail services following the accident that occurred at East Bekasi Station on Monday, April 27th evening.

“The number of passengers who died and were injured was 106. Of the 91 injured, 15 were killed and 91 were injured. Of the 91 injured, 38 already returned home,” said Minister of Transportation Dudy.

Meanwhile, PT. KAI President Director Bobby Rasyidin added that train operations on the downstream route were restored on Tuesday (April 28) at 1:30 a.m. Western Indonesian Time (WIB).

This means long-distance trains from the east can now use the route.

Meanwhile, by Wednesday (April 29) at 2:00 a.m. Western Indonesian Time (WIB), the upstream route had been cleared of debris.

“We, along with the National Transportation Safety Committee (KNKT), have ensured the safety of this route for long-distance trains, although a speed limit of 30 km/h remains in place in the station area,” said President Director Bobby.

The Ministry of Transportation, along with PT. KAI and other transportation stakeholders, emphasized that there will be zero tolerance for violations or reductions in safety standards in any form for all genders.

During the post-incident recovery period, over the next 14 days, two emergency response posts have been opened at East Bekasi Station and Gambir Station.

Based on in-depth analysis and verification of the latest data in the field, there has been an adjustment to the chronology of events from what was previously reported.

The accident is known to have begun when a commuter train (KRL) traveling from Cikarang to Jakarta collided with a car at the JPL 85 level crossing.

As a result, the KRL train had to be evacuated and designated as an Extraordinary Trip (PLB) with code 5181 because it was out of service and operating outside of its regular schedule.

As a result, officials stopped another KRL train, code 5568, heading to Cikarang, at the East Bekasi Station platform.

However, the Argo Bromo Anggrek train (KA 4) traveling from Jakarta to Surabaya failed to stop completely, resulting in an incident with the stopped PLB 5568 train.
