en.malanginspirasi.com – The opening of the 2026 National Student Arts and Literature Competition Festival (FLS3N) for junior high school students in Malang Regency, held at SMP Negeri 3 Kepanjen on Saturday, May 9, 2026.
The theme of the event titled ‘Cultivating National Character through Arts and Cultural Activities and Appreciation’.
It became a platform for the nation’s young talents to perform their dedication, creativity, and potential in the arts and literature.
The Head of the FLS3N Malang Regency Committee, Sugeng Hardiyanto, stated that this event aims to develop students’ talents and creativity in the arts optimally.
Furthermore, this activity can instill an appreciation for the nation’s cultural values, foster a competitive attitude with a global perspective, and provide a platform for students to develop their interests and talents in the arts.
FLS3N also served as a selection process to determine the best representatives from Malang Regency who would compete at the provincial and national levels.
This year, FLS3N attracted 588 participants from public and private schools throughout Malang Regency.
Participants competed in eight categories: illustration (72), storytelling (99), story writing (85), mixed music ensemble (45), traditional music creativity (60 or 12 teams), solo singing (78), pantomime (74), and creative dance (75).

The Head of the Malang Regency Education Office, represented by the Head of the Junior High School Student Affairs Section, Mutoharoh, officially opened the event.
In her remarks, Mutoharoh emphasized that FLS3N is not simply a competition to identify the best.
Yet, it is a platform for students to express their talents, creativity, and potential in the arts and literature.
“Amidst the rapid development of technology and the increasingly complex challenges of the times, the younger generation should not only excel academically, but also to possess a sensitive sense of taste, strong character, and creative abilities. Arts and literature play a vital role in shaping creative, innovative, and cultured individuals,” she said.
She also expressed her optimism about the potential of students in Malang Regency.
The achievements in the previous year’s FLS3N last year revealed that Malang Regency students are capable of competing at the provincial level.
“In the 2025 FLS3N, Malang Regency achieved several achievements at the provincial level. We hope that the best participants selected this year will be able to achieve even better results, even reaching the national level,” she added.
