en.malanginspirasi.com – The State University of Malang (UM), through its Research Team from the Center for Environmental and Disaster Studies (PLMK), held a mangrove nursery in the coastal area of South Malang, specifically at the Clungup Mangrove Conservation (CMC) Tiga Warna beach.
This activity was in collaboration with the CMC tourism management, which is committed to the sustainability of the mangrove ecosystem.
It demonstrates their commitment to mangrove conservation to address climate change.
Most environmental conservation efforts and strengthening coastal conservation efforts focus on planting mangroves in coastal areas.
However, it is impossible to do the planting process if the desired mangrove seedlings are unavailable.
In addition to mangrove nurseries, there was also a mangrove survey to map the condition of the mangroves from Celungup Beach to Tiga Warna Beach.

The land conditions in this area were found to be very suitable due to its extensive tidal zone, which allows mangroves to grow and thrive.
“The management of CMC Tiga Warna has a very strong commitment to mangrove management. Geography lecturers, through the Research Center for Environmental and Disaster Studies (PLMK) at UM, have a strong commitment to the environment. With this nursery, we hope to educate tourists who visit and want to plant mangroves,” said Prof. Dr. Sumarmi, M.Pd.
Not only for CMC, but other beaches in need of mangrove seedlings can coordinate with the management of CMC Tiga Warna.
Therefore, this mangrove nursery activity is guaranteed to provide extensive benefits, as mangroves themselves have an oxygen-producing capacity eight times greater than the average plant.
This activity occured through the support of LPPM UM as it is expected to foster synergy between the university and the community, especially tourists visiting CMC Tiga Warna.
