Prepare Now for Quality Old Age: Message from Kemenkes for HLUN 2026

en.malanginspirasi.com – The Ministry of Health (Kemenkes) encourages the public to prepare for a healthy, independent, active, and empowered old age from an early age by adopting a healthy lifestyle throughout the life cycle on commemorating the 2026 National Day for Seniors (HLUN).

The Director of Health Services for Vulnerable Groups at Kemenkes, Imran Pambudi stated the importance of this step.

This is becauseĀ  Indonesia has entered an era of aging, marked by an increasing number of elderly people along with increasing life expectancy

“This is a success in health development for which we should all be grateful. However, it also presents a challenge for all of us to ensure that Indonesians not only live longer, but also remain healthy, independent, active, and have a good quality of life in old age,” said Imran while opening an interactive webinar commemorating the 2026 National Day for Seniors (HLUN), themed “Preparing for a Healthy, Independent, and Empowered Old Age,” on Friday (June 5, 2026).

Based on data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), he said that the proportion of the elderly population has now reached almost 12 percent, or around 34 million people.

This figure is projected to increase to around 20 percent of Indonesia’s total population by 2045.

Therefore, Imran emphasized that preparing for old age cannot be done instantly, but must begin from a productive age through healthy lifestyles, regular physical activity, mental health maintenance, strengthening social relationships, and regular health check-ups.

“This life-cycle approach is an important foundation for facing the aging process with better health,” he said.

Imran Pambudi explained that the concept of healthy aging is not only measured by longevity or being free from disease, but also by a person’s ability to remain independent, actively participate in family and community life, and have a good quality of life.

“Seniors must remain productive. They need support so they continue to feel valued, have meaning in their lives, and can continue to contribute according to their abilities and potential,” he said.

He added that family support and an elderly-friendly environment are important factors in maintaining the health, well-being, and quality of life of the elderly. “Old age is not a burden, but rather a phase of life that can still be lived healthily, actively, happily, and meaningfully,” Imran emphasized.

On this occasion, Imran also invited the public to attend the peak commemoration of Senior Citizens’ Day, which will be held on June 13, 2026, at the National Brain Center Hospital (PON), Jakarta.

The event will feature exhibitions, activities with seniors, educational talk shows, and health check-ups.

He hopes that the momentum of HLUN 2026 will encourage a change in society’s perspective on the aging process and increase awareness of the elderly.

“Respecting and loving the elderly wholeheartedly will help them remain healthy, independent, and inspiring,” he concluded.
