en.malanginspirasi.com — Indonesia has officially selected Kamila Andini’s psychological drama Four Seasons in Java (Empat Musim Pertiwi) as its official submission for the Best International Feature Film category at the 99th Academy Awards.
Written and directed by Andini and produced by Ifa Isfansyah for Forka Films, the film stars featured lead Putri Marino alongside Arya Saloka, Christine Hakim, and Hana Malasan.
The story centers on Pertiwi, played by Marino, a formerly incarcerated woman who returns to a hostile hometown, forcing her to reckon with a painful personal history amid ongoing social division.
The narrative weaves elements of mystery, magical realism, and science fiction through its central exploration of trauma and identity.
Director Kamila Andini described the project as a story about returning to the parts of ourselves we have been forced to leave behind, noting that while the film is deeply rooted in Indonesia, its themes of memory and healing are universal.
The selection extends Andini’s prominent streak on the international film festival circuit.
Her 2021 feature Yuni won the prestigious Platform Prize at the Toronto International Film Festival before serving as Indonesia’s Academy Award entry that year.

‘Empat Musim Pertiwi’ recently made its world premiere in the Centrepiece program at the Toronto International Film Festival and is scheduled to screen at the Busan International Film Festival next month.
The film has also earned a Best Cinematography nomination at the 2026 Asia Pacific Screen Awards.
Producer Ifa Isfansyah expressed pride in the selection, highlighting the strength of the film’s international partnerships.
The project is a global co-production spanning Indonesia, France, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Saudi Arabia, and Singapore, with Paris-based sales agent Goodfellas handling worldwide rights.
Following a limited run in select theaters this month, ‘Empat Musim Pertiwi’ will open across Indonesia in wide theatrical release on October 8.
