Ha Young Commercial and Broadcast Fallout Escalates Over Family History Controversy

en.malanginsirasi.com –  The professional fallout surrounding actress Ha Young continues to worsen following allegations regarding her family history controversy.

As her great-grandfather’s pro-Japanese activities,  another major brand hides her advertising content from public view.

An exclusive report from OSEN on September 16 revealed that Japanese electronics brand Panasonic recently set an advertisement featuring Ha Young to private.

This brings the total number of pulled or privatized commercial campaigns featuring the actress to seven.

The controversy originated during a variety show broadcast where Ha Young mentioned that she came from a family spanning four generations of medical professionals, including her great-grandfather, grandfather, father, and older sister.

Following the episode, online observers linked her great-grandfather to Ahn Sang Ho.

Records subsequently surfaced showing his involvement in pro-Japanese organizations, including a 1918 report in the Maeil Shinbo, the official newspaper of the Japanese colonial government in Korea.

While Ha Young’s agency originally dismissed the claims as “completely unfounded,” it reversed its stance the following day.

After further verification, the agency acknowledged that records confirmed Ahn Sang Ho was listed as a council member of the Daejeong Fellowship Society in 1916.

The agency issued a official apology for issuing a hasty response without proper investigation.

On August 12, Ha Young posted a handwritten personal apology addressing the public.

“I do not believe that the fact that I was unaware of this history can be a reason to ignore or take it lightly,” she wrote. “I take those actions seriously and sincerely apologize as a descendant.”

She added that she would “properly examine my family’s history and the era in which they lived” and approach history with greater care going forward.

Ha Young also pledged to “do my best to honor and respect all those who fought for the independence of Korea, liberation from Japanese colonial rule, and the well-being of the nation.”

Despite her apology, commercial and media partners swiftly moved to distance themselves from the controversy. Brands including Atid, Samsung Electronics, Naver Plus Store, clothing label Project M, Panasonic, and the National Emergency Medical Center have all privatized or pulled advertisements featuring the actress.

Television and radio outlets have enacted similar measures. Problem Child in House, the variety show where her comments were originally broadcast, suspended access to replay content for her episode, and radio program Young Street similarly removed its replay access.

The backlash has extended to her upcoming acting projects as well. Ha Young voluntarily stepped down from her scheduled role in Season 2 of Netflix’s ‘The Trauma Code: Heroes on Call’.

Meanwhile, the production team behind SBS’s drama ‘There Is a Win’, where Ha Young had already completed filming, is closely monitoring public sentiment and considering how to handle her finished scenes.

Ha Young previously established herself as an emerging talent through roles in ‘The Trauma Code: Heroes on Call’, ‘One High School Heroes’, and ‘Such a Fucking Love’.

However, the historical controversy—surfacing just ahead of Korea’s Liberation Day anniversary—continues to severely disrupt her career across the Korean entertainment industry.
