en.malanginspirasi.com – Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs Meutya Hafid has called on Roblox to ensure that all child protection provisions in Indonesia are concretely implemented within the platform.
The Indonesian government asserts that national regulatory authorities apply to all digital platforms operating and serving the Indonesian public, including Roblox.
Meutya Hafid conveyed this stance to Roblox Co-Founder and CEO David Baszucki during a meeting at Roblox headquarters in Silicon Valley, USA.
A key point of focus was the implementation of Government Regulation Number 17 of 2025 concerning the Governance of Electronic System Operations regarding Child Protection (PP Tunas).
Meutya Hafid emphasized that the obligation to comply with Indonesian regulations must be translated into tangible actions, particularly regarding the protection of users under the age of 16.
The government acknowledges the measures Roblox has already taken, such as implementing facial age estimation technology, restricting communication features for child users, and launching Roblox Kids and Roblox Select.
However, the government has requested that age verification and child user protection mechanisms be strengthened. “We understand that many Indonesian children enjoy Roblox, so we sincerely hope that Roblox also cares for our children, especially regarding their safety,” said Meutya Hafid in a statement from California, USA, on Tuesday (September 22, 2026).
Minister Meutya Hafid also urged Roblox to adopt the “safety-by-design” principle by integrating child protection into the platform’s design and features from the very beginning.
These measures include restricting interactions with strangers, preventing communication from shifting to external platforms, and enhancing capabilities to detect and halt risky behavior at an early stage.
Roblox CEO David Baszucki expressed the company’s openness to adjusting its products to meet the specific needs of the countries where it operates.

“Our philosophy is that Roblox has a significant future agenda regarding how we play; the changes you are requesting might well be sought by other nations too. Consequently, we will be better able to configure our product to meet your requirements—an approach we hope to continue in the future,” David stated.
Baszucki also noted that the changes requested by Indonesia could be integrated into Roblox’s product development roadmap and potentially implemented in other countries with similar needs.
In addition to strengthening on-platform protections, the government is urging Roblox to establish a stronger direct presence in Indonesia, such as by stationing senior executives or opening an office in Jakarta.
A local presence is a way to accelerate communication, coordination, and engagement between Roblox and the Indonesian government.
Furthermore, the government requires that the implementation of these measures be monitored through routine, measurable, and transparent reporting.
Compliance with child protection regulations is expected to be demonstrated through tangible changes within the platform, rather than merely through policy announcements.
“Global platforms may operate anywhere, but when they are present and serving the Indonesian public, they must adhere to Indonesian standards and regulations,” asserted the Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs.
The government emphasized that Indonesian regulations apply to all platforms operating in the country, without exception.
Compliance with these provisions will be continuously ensured through government oversight.
