Malanginspirasi.com – The Islamic Guidance and Counseling (BKI) Program at the Institute of Islamic Religion (IAI) Sunan Kalijogo Malang successfully organized a self-development seminar titled Main Character Energy with the subtitle “Stop Insecure! Self-Love Tactics for Gen Z.”
Held in the Auditorium on the 2nd floor of the IAI Sunan Kalijogo campus, the event ran from 08:30 to 11:00 WIB on Saturday, November 8, 2025.
This academic initiative aimed to equip students with practical knowledge, particularly in addressing the rising mental health issue of insecurity among young people.
Event Chairperson Ardiansyah Dwiki Suryadi, a 5th-semester BKI student, explained that the seminar featured a highly competent speaker, Diah Retno Ningsih, M.Pd., a lecturer, certified counselor, co-founder of the Hello Konseling app, and a certified hypnotherapist.
Participants praised Diah’s engaging and approachable delivery, which created a comfortable environment for active discussion and idea-sharing.
Diah Retno Ningsih emphasized that the seminar’s primary goal was to tackle the growing cases of insecurity among today’s youth, which can escalate into bullying.
She expressed hope that attendees would leave with greater self-love and resilience against feelings of inadequacy.

Prioritizing Self-Love
According to Diah, self-love is especially critical for BKI students—future counselors—who must first love themselves before guiding others.
She stressed the importance of mastering self-love techniques to teach clients and those around them.
In general, self-love is foundational to personal growth and self-actualization.
“The expected outcome is that students and participants will develop their own self-care practices—tailored actions that help them truly love themselves,” said a dean from the Faculty of Da’wah and Islamic Communication.
Program Head’s Statement
Rindra Risdiantoro, M.Si., M.Pd., Head of the BKI Program at IAI Sunan Kalijogo Malang, highlighted the seminar as an extension of academic activities and a platform for student learning—both in event management and expanding counseling knowledge.
“This is a highly relevant and popular topic, especially among Gen Z, who frequently experience insecurity—feelings of self-doubt, hesitation, and anxiety,” he noted.

The seminar targeted BKI students at IAI Sunan Kalijogo as well as high school (SMA/SMK) students from the Jabung area.
“Through this theme, we hope students will understand what insecurity is and, at the very least, learn how to overcome it within themselves,” Rindra added.
The event’s success involved collaboration with multiple stakeholders, including the BKI Program Head, the Dean of the Faculty of Da’wah and Islamic Communication, and several lecturers: Mr. Fayrus, Ms. Fatma, and Ms. Zizi.
