Aiming for Excellence: FSTeM UB Gears Up for New LAMSAMA Accreditation Standards

en.malanginspirasi.com – The Faculty of Science, Technology, and Mathematics (FSTeM) at Brawijaya University (UB) is moving quickly to prepare for the implementation of the Study Program Accreditation Instrument (IAPS) 3.1 from the Independent Accreditation Institute for Natural Sciences and Formal Sciences (LAMSAMA).

The new instrument will take place in 2026 as it presents both a challenge and an opportunity for higher education institutions to maintain their academic quality.

As a precautionary measure, UB’s FSTeM held a LAMSAMA 3.1 Self-Evaluation Report (LED) Document Preparation Workshop, attended by study program heads, faculty leaders, and academic support units.

The Dean of UB’s FSTeM, Prof. Sukir Maryanto, stated that the changes in the accreditation instrument require all study programs to understand the new standards early on to ensure a more focused preparation process.

“We deliberately invited LAMSAMA representatives to ensure all stakeholders have a common understanding regarding the new instrument. Our target is clear: study programs that are already outstanding will maintain their status, while those that are not yet outstanding will be encouraged to improve immediately,” said Prof. Sukir, Friday, June 19th, 2026.

Currently, FSTeM UB has 19 study programs ranging from undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral levels. Of these, 11 study programs are scheduled to undergo the accreditation process next year.

According to Prof. Sukir, the main challenge is not simply fulfilling accreditation requirements, but maintaining the sustainability of educational quality, governance, and consistent documentation of all academic activities.

“The biggest challenge is maintaining high quality on an ongoing basis. Furthermore, graduate traceability, user satisfaction, and alumni job readiness are also important considerations in the assessment,” he said.

Nevertheless, he is optimistic that FSTeM will be able to adapt to the new scheme. This optimism emerged after the faculty studied the various assessment components presented in the workshop.

FSTeM will map all study programs based on the 35 assessment components contained in the new instrument.

The faculty takes  this step  to identify the strengths of each study program so that a more effective strategy towards achieving superior accreditation can be formulated.

Comparison Between Instruments

Meanwhile, Nurjannah, Vice Dean for Academic Affairs at FSTeM UB, explained that IAPS 3.1 brings significant changes compared to the previous instrument.

Whereas previously, quantitative documents in tabular form supported assessments largely, now the focus shifts to self-evaluation, which comprehensively describes the quality of the study program.

“This new instrument places greater emphasis on fulfilling mandatory indicators. So, it’s not enough to simply achieve a high overall score; certain components must also reach the excellent category to achieve superior status,” she explained.

Nurjannah revealed that currently, 17 of 19 study programs within FSTeM have achieved superior status, or approximately 89.47 percent.

Meanwhile, two other study programs, Bioinformatics and Data Science, are still awaiting the fulfillment of administrative requirements because they are relatively new study programs.

With advance preparation and extensive experience in navigating various national and international accreditation processes, FSTeM UB is optimistic about maintaining its reputation as one of the leading science faculties in Indonesia.

“We see this new instrument as more challenging, but it also provides momentum to continuously improve quality. The most important thing is to ensure that all study programs are ready and able to meet the required indicators,” he concluded.
