Malanginspirasi.com – A total of 1,400 journalism pieces produced by students of the Communication Science Department at the University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) were officially launched and exhibited during the Communication Journalistic Festival (CJF) 2025, held on Tuesday (June 17, 2025) at the Malang Creative Center (MCC).
The works were the result of practical assignments in the Online Journalism course, created by seven groups of students. Each group produced up to 200 news articles on a variety of topics.
The seven themes explored include art, culinary, environment, pop culture, entertainment, tips and lifestyle, and human interest. The student-run media portals launched during the event include moreartmoreit.com, foryourplate.id, geograph.id, sodacan.id, creartips.com, manungsa.id, and poppals.id.
Faizin, a representative from UMM’s Student Affairs Bureau who attended on behalf of the university rector, expressed his admiration for the students’ work.
“I walked around and looked at the various student projects. There was one media platform I really liked because it aligned with my personal interests,” he said, praising foryourplate.id.
One Click, A Thousand Stories
Carrying the tagline “One Click, A Thousand Stories,” the festival captured the students’ enthusiasm for presenting facts and shaping narratives through digital platforms.
“This is the moment we’ve been waiting for the culmination of a semester’s worth of journalistic work,” said Widiya Yutanti, Head of UMM’s Communication Laboratory, during her opening speech.
She emphasized that these projects go beyond classroom assignments.
“These aren’t just practice tasks. They can be developed into portfolios, commercial ventures, or even final thesis projects,” she added.
Azrohal Hasan, Editor-in-Chief of PWMU.CO, who was also in attendance, described the event as a platform with strong potential to scale up.
“The portals are impressive. The specific themes chosen by the students resonate well with today’s generation,” he said while visiting the student booths.

The festival was organized by students from the Public Relations practicum group Elora, in collaboration with journalism-track students. Its main goal was to showcase student digital journalism projects to the public, while also promoting collaboration, recognition, and exposure.
“With youthful energy and creative ideas, Communication Journalistic Festival 2025 is proof that UMM Communication students don’t just write news, they build digital media platforms that speak to the public,” concluded Aulia Rahmah, the event’s lead organizer.
