Malanginspirasi.com – One of the annual events organized by Bank Indonesia (BI) Malang is Serambi BI. This initiative, facilitated by BI’s Malang Representative Office, provides mobile currency exchange services through Kas Keliling (Mobile Cash).
As part of Serambi BI, BI Malang collaborates with Koinan.id to assist residents in converting coins into e-wallets or donations to Dompet Dhuafa, free of transaction fees.
This event took place on Tuesday, March 11, 2025, at Lapangan Merjosari, Lowokwaru, Malang, from 09:00 to 12:00 WIB, garnering significant enthusiasm from the community.
The collaboration addresses the limited use of coins in daily transactions, offering a practical solution to repurpose them.
“Through this event, BI partners with Koinan.id to facilitate coin exchanges via Koinan machines, instantly calculating their value and transferring them to e-wallets or donations,” explained a BI Malang representative.
Accepted e-wallets include OVO, Dana, Link Aja, and GoPay.
BI Malang emphasized that the collected coins would be distributed to those in need, such as retailers, ensuring broader economic circulation.
“This initiative serves as a bridge between the public and retailers, as coins rarely return to BI,” they added.
Encouraged by the event’s success, Koinan.id plans to develop ATM-like machines for coin exchanges, aiming to expand accessibility.
“We are currently developing these machines, with a launch planned for Jabodetabek mid-year, followed by Java and Bali,” said Vicky, CEO and Co-Founder of Koinan.id.
However, certain coins are excluded from exchange, including gold-colored coins, denominations of Rp5, Rp10, Rp25, and Rp50, damaged or sticky coins, and those with missing inscriptions.

Overall, the collaboration between BI Malang and Koinan.id through Serambi BI offers an effective solution for coin utilization, promoting economic efficiency and broader circulation.
This initiative not only simplifies transactions but also contributes to wider economic benefits.
