Malanginspirasi.com – The annual Festival Lomba Seni Siswa Nasional (FLS2N) and Olimpiade Olahraga Siswa Nasional (O2SN) for the city of Malang officially commenced on Wednesday, May 7th, 2025, at SD Islamic Global School. This event serves as a crucial platform for students to unleash their creativity, engage in healthy competition, and discover and express their talents across diverse fields of art and sports.
This initiative is a yearly agenda item of the Indonesian Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology, designed to foster artistic, cultural, sporting, and religious values among students.
In Malang, FLS2N and O2SN specifically aim to nurture students’ interests and aptitudes, provide an inspiring environment for creative expression and shared experiences, and identify outstanding students to represent the city at the provincial and national levels.
According to Sutiyono, the head of the organizing committee, the theme of FLS2N 2025, “Ekspresi Seni, Inspiratif Negeri” (“Artistic Expression, Inspiring the Nation”), promotes the values embedded in the seven habits of excellent Indonesian children.
He noted that approximately 150 participants, comprising the first, second, and third-place winners from clusters across the five sub-districts of Malang, are participating in the competition.
“Each sub-district sends representatives from the winning cluster level. Therefore, the total number of participants is around 150 students from elementary schools and Islamic elementary schools, both public and private,” explained Sutiyono.
The FLS2N competition encompasses seven categories, including dance, painting, pantomime, story writing, storytelling, expressive drawing, and solo singing.
To ensure objectivity and quality in the assessment process, the organizing committee has partnered with the Malang Arts Council (Dewan Kesenian Malang) as the judging panel.
“We have appointed judges from the Malang Arts Council to maintain neutrality and professionalism. The selection process is entirely accountable,” said Sutiyono.
Selecting Malang’s Representatives for the Provincial Level
Meanwhile, Suwarjana, Kepala Dinas Pendidikan Kota Malang (the Head of the Malang City Education Departement), emphasized that this event serves as a city-level selection process to determine Malang’s representatives for the East Java Provincial level.
“The selection process is tiered, from the cluster, sub-district, to the city level. The city-level winners will represent Malang in East Java Province,” explained Suwarjana.
He also expressed his hope that the judges would perform their duties professionally, as the best participants will represent the city of Malang at a higher level.
“The best must genuinely be selected. Therefore, the judges must be professional and fair,” he added.
As a form of support, the Malang City Education Department will also provide intensive training for the winners before they participate in the competition at the provincial level.
“Those selected as winners will receive direct training and monitoring from us in preparation for the East Java level,” concluded Suwarjana.
