The Boeing 737-800 aircraft (registration PK-GFS) successfully landed at Sultan Hasanuddin International Airport in Makassar with 141 passengers and eight crew members on board.
The Directorate General of Civil Aviation at the Ministry of Transportation confirmed that the incident was handled in accordance with aviation safety procedures.
Coordination involving the flight crew, airport management, AirNav Indonesia, Garuda Indonesia, and the technical team took place immediately after the report regarding the wheel damage was received.
Initial information regarding the aircraft’s wheel condition was relayed by the Soekarno-Hatta International Airport JATSC Tower to the Pilot in Command (PIC) at 05:52 WIB, after it was determined that main wheel number 3 had suffered a burst tire.
At 06:04 WIB, the PIC coordinated via Ground-to-Air (GTA) communication and decided to proceed with the flight to Sultan Hasanuddin International Airport.
Coordination with Sultan Hasanuddin International Airport authorities was carried out to anticipate a potential runway blockage during or after landing and to prepare response measures should they be required.

Flight GA604 ultimately landed safely on runway 03 at Sultan Hasanuddin International Airport at 09:13 WITA.
After the aircraft came to a halt, the runway was temporarily closed via NOTAM Number A3284/26 to ensure operational safety and allow personnel to inspect and attend to the aircraft.
The Directorate General of Civil Aviation, through the Region V Makassar Airport Authority Office, coordinated with the technical teams from Garuda Indonesia and GMF AeroAsia.
An initial inspection revealed a burst tire on main wheel number 3. The aircraft was subsequently towed from the runway to a parking stand for further inspection and repairs, including the replacement of the main wheel.
The 141 passengers and eight crew members were attended to with a priority on safety and security, in accordance with applicable regulations.
Director General of Civil Aviation Lukman F. Laisa commended the rapid response and coordination of all parties involved in handling the incident.
He noted that the coordination—spanning the time the aircraft was in flight through to the post-landing response—was crucial in maintaining flight safety.
“Aviation safety and security are the top priority. We continue to coordinate and monitor the inspection and handling processes for the aircraft in compliance with applicable regulations,” said Lukman.
As part of the incident response, runway inspections and clearing operations were conducted at both Soekarno-Hatta International Airport and Sultan Hasanuddin International Airport.
These measures were taken to ensure the absence of Foreign Object Debris (FOD) that could potentially compromise flight safety.
The Ministry of Transportation also ensured that the aircraft inspection and repair processes were carried out in accordance with established procedures and aviation safety regulations.
The rapid response from all parties was key to managing the incident—from the flight crew coordinating the situation and airport operators preparing landing procedures, to AirNav Indonesia managing air traffic and the technical team attending to the aircraft after landing.
The Ministry of Transportation affirmed that it would continue to monitor the handling of flight GA604 and ensure that all processes proceed with a priority on safety, security, and smooth flight operations.
