en.malanginspirasi.com – Renowned attorney Hotman Paris Hutapea has officially announced his resignation as legal counsel for former Junior Attorney General for Special Crimes (Jampidsus), Febrie Ardiansyah.
Hotman decided to step down as his health condition deteriorated following pinched nerve surgery in Singapore.
He revealed that he informed Febrie of his decision two days prior. Although Febrie initially asked him to stay on for a few more days, Hotman chose to prioritize his recovery due to fears of long-term medical complications.
“I have informed him that I am stepping down as counsel for Mr. Febrie regarding the case at the Attorney General’s Office,” Hotman stated in Jakarta.
Hotman explained that he underwent surgery under general anesthesia at Novena Hospital in Singapore on July 9 to remove tissue compressing his spine.
Although his doctors instructed him to take strict bed rest for two weeks, Hotman admitted to ignoring medical advice and immediately returning to work. Consequently, the pain in his lower back flared up again severely.

“The doctor’s note was clear: no work for two weeks. But I kept working, and it got worse. The doctor in Singapore was furious,” Hotman said.
He admitted that his primary reason for stepping aside was the genuine fear of permanent paralysis caused by prolonged nerve compression.
“I was afraid it would get worse. Honestly, I’m terrified of becoming paralyzed because that nerve runs down to my leg. If something happens to the nerve, my leg won’t even be able to kick back at my opponents,” said the veteran lawyer, who manages hundreds of legal cases.
Returning to Singapore for Evaluation
Following advice from medical professionals in Jakarta and his spine specialist in Singapore, Hotman is scheduled to fly back to Singapore early Saturday morning for further evaluation and treatment.
Regarding Febrie’s legal defense, Hotman emphasized that Febrie was understanding of his situation. He added that the defense team remains solid, supported by dozens of other attorneys and senior former prosecutors.
“He understands the situation; he is my friend. Besides, there are dozens of other lawyers on the team, including senior former prosecutors, so the defense will not be disrupted,” Hotman concluded.
