Javanese Drama at Imlek Celebration by SMA Taman Harapan Malang Students Represent Admirable Diversity

Malanginspirasi.com – A drama in Javanese made the Chinese New Year celebration at the hall of Taman Harapan Malang more unique.

Students from the final grade of Taman Harapan High School (SMA Taman Harapan) performed a drama about Sarip Tambak Oso.

The drama was the final performances at the Imlek Celebration that was held in Taman Harapan Malang school, Wednesday, 18 February 2026.

Sarip is one of the most famous legends from Sidoarjo, East Java, Indonesia.

Known as the ‘Robin Hood of Sidoarjo’, he was a brave local hero or village warrior who fought against injustice, especially during the Dutch colonial era.

Those students wore traditional costumes while performing their best acts in front of students and teachers of Taman Harapan.

The headmaster of SMA Taman Harapan, Palupi Yarmini, S.Pd explained that the drama was once scheduled earlier.

“But then, we decided to perform this drama at the Imlek celebration today as it is also the examination for the Javanese Language lesson,” she explained.

Palupi explained the main reason why those high school students performed this Javanese drama at the Imlek celebration.

“Taman Harapan has been known as a school with various ethnics and religions. This event can represent how our school can accommodate all students from different cultures and religions,” she said.

So far, she said, Taman Harapan High School always strengthened students’ characters in performing tolerance toward each other.

“We expect our students to appreciate others with different cultures and religions, particularly during special events like this,” she claimed.

Furthermore, Palupi has proven that students of SMA Taman Harapan Malang always show great tolerance in every religious festival.

“At the time they graduate from this school, they will become individuals with excellent personalities in facing diversity,” she concluded.
