Kemenag Declares Eid al-Adha 1447 AH to Fall on May 27, 2026

en.malanginspirasi.com – The Ministry of Religious Affairs (Kemenag), has declared Eid al-Adha 1447 AH to fall on Wednesday, May 27, 2026.

Minister of Religious Affairs (Menag) Nasaruddin Umar announced the decision after the isbat (confirmation) meeting to determine the beginning of Zulhijah 1447 AH at the Ministry of Religious Affairs office in Jakarta on Sunday (May 17, 2026).

“Zulhijah 1, 1447 AH, falls on Monday, May 18, 2026, and therefore, Eid al-Adha 1447 AH, Zulhijah 10, 1447 AH, falls on Wednesday, May 27, 2026,” said Nasaruddin Umar in a press conference.

The government combined the hisab (calculation) and rukyatul hilal (crescent sighting) methods in making this determination.

The methods took place simultaneously at 88 monitoring points across Indonesia, from Aceh to West Papua.

The rukyat locations included observatories, beaches, building rooftops, observation towers, and even strategic mosques in various regions to ensure the accuracy of the crescent sighting results.

The monitoring was the collaboration with the Regional Offices of the Ministry of Religious Affairs, the Ministry of Religious Affairs in regencies/cities, religious courts, Islamic community organizations, and astronomy experts.

Before the isbat (crescent sighting) session, the Ministry of Religious Affairs also held a seminar on the crescent position involving astronomy experts, academics, and representatives of Islamic community organizations.

The Director of Islamic Religious Affairs and Sharia Guidance at the Ministry of Religious Affairs, Arsad Hidayat, stated that the isbat session becomes a joint forum to ensure that the accuracy of initial determination of Zulhijjah so it is  acceptable to all Muslims in Indonesia.

“The isbat session serves as a joint forum to combine the results of the hisab (calculation) and rukyatul hilal (crescent sighting) to accurately determine the beginning of Zulhijah 1447 AH (the month of Hijjah) and ensure its acceptance by all Indonesian Muslims,” ​​said Arsad.

Based on the hisab calculations, the ijtimak (ijtimak) will occur on May 17, 2026, at approximately 3:00:55 a.m. Western Indonesian Time.

At the time of the rukyat, the estimation of the crescent moon above the horizon at an altitude between 3 degrees 37 minutes and 6 degrees 54 minutes.

“Hindu sighting is being conducted extensively across Indonesia to ensure the accuracy of the rukyat results and to inform decision-making in the isbat session,” said Arsad Hidayat.

Various stakeholders attended the isbat session like the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), the National Agency for Research and Innovation (BRIN), the Geospatial Information Agency, the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI), Islamic organizations, academics, and astronomy experts.
