Kemkomdigi Holds “Sahabat Tunas” Forum at PP Bahrul Maghfiroh to Promote Safe Digital Literacy for Children

Malanginspirasi.com – The Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs (Kemkomdigi) organized the “Forum Sahabat Tunas: Sesi Anak Hebat Belajar Aturan PP Tunas” at Pondok Pesantren (PP) Bahrul Maghfiroh in Malang, East Java.

The event served as an educational platform for students (santri) to learn about the importance of digital literacy and child protection in the online world.

The forum was officially opened by Director General of Public Communication and Media, Fifi Aleyda Yahya, who expressed her admiration for the santri and shared inspiring stories from her travels across Indonesia.

“In Yogyakarta, we met children who are brilliant at coding but still love playing traditional egrang (bamboo stilts). In Sukabumi, children plant crops and fish in nature,” Fifi said on Tuesday, 18 November, 2025.

She emphasized that the santri at Bahrul Maghfiroh Islamic Boarding School are equally remarkable.

The very first facility shown to the ministry delegation was the pesantren’s state-of-the-art Digital and AI Laboratory, which supports the students’ learning process.

“What’s truly extraordinary here at Pondok Pesantren Bahrul Maghfiroh is that the first thing we were introduced to was the Digital and AI Laboratory – a facility that directly supports the santri’s education,” Fifi remarked.

She added that digital media has become an integral part of the santri’s daily lives, enabling them to learn through videos, search for information, and create content together with their peers.

Internet Risks for Children

While celebrating the benefits of technology, Fifi also reminded the audience that the internet carries risks, especially for children. She likened the internet to a giant library containing millions of books – some filled with valuable knowledge, others containing content unsuitable for young users.

This is precisely why the government introduced specific regulations to help create a safer digital environment for children.

In March 2025, President Prabowo Subianto officially issued Government Regulation on Child Protection in the Digital Space (PP Tunas), making Indonesia only the second country in the world – after Australia – to implement such comprehensive legislation.

PP Tunas requires digital platforms to prevent harmful content from appearing, provide robust safety features, and offer age-appropriate settings.

“This regulation is not meant to restrict you, but to protect our younger brothers and sisters. We want all of you to grow into outstanding shoots of the nation, intelligent, ethical, and capable of filtering information wisely in the digital world,” Fifi stressed.

She underlined that successful digital child protection cannot rely on the government alone. It requires close collaboration between pesantren, schools, parents, and the children themselves.

In her closing remarks, Fifi expressed confidence that the santri of Bahrul Maghfiroh represent a generation that is not only technologically proficient but also morally upright and capable of bringing goodness to their surroundings.

“We believe that the santri at Bahrul Maghfiroh Islamic Boarding School are not only a generation that is adept at technology, but also a generation of noble character (akhlak karimah) who bring goodness to the surrounding environment,” she concluded.
