However, the South Korean coach can continue his role as head coach of Persija Jakarta in the Indonesian league.
According to reports released on Wednesday (July 23, 2026), the KFA’s Disciplinary Committee has decided to impose a severe sanction on Shin Tae-yong related to controversies during his brief tenure at Ulsan HD in 2025.
As stated, the punishment may include qualification suspension (up to 10 years), match ban, or even permanent expulsion.
The case stemmed from an incident in which Shin allegedly slapped defender Jung Seung-hyun on the cheek during a squad introduction session.
Then, the video went viral, triggering accusations of player abuse.
Additional issues included internal conflicts with players and allegations of playing golf during team travel.
Importantly, the sanction is only effective within South Korea.

As Shin Tae-yong is currently based in Indonesia, he remains free to fulfill his duties with Persija Jakarta, where he signed a three-year contract in June 2026.
“There are many unfair aspects, and I want to prove the truth. However, I’m concerned that this could harm my former players, and the atmosphere in Korean football is not good right now. I choose to accept and endure it,” he stated in an interview with Korean media.
He added that he is still considering whether to file an appeal.
Shin Tae-yong previously gained fame in Indonesia after successfully coaching the national team for five years (2020–2025) before being sacked by PSSI in January 2025.
He then had a short 65-day stint at Ulsan HD before returning to Indonesia to take charge of Persija Jakarta.
