The 28-year-old Brazilian international has penned a four-year contract at the Emirates Stadium, with an option to extend for an additional year.
Speaking on his departure, the midfielder admitted that leaving St James’ Park was one of the “toughest decisions” of his career.

Guimarães departed Newcastle’s pre-season training camp in La Manga, Spain, earlier this week after talks between the two clubs reached a breakthrough.
Newcastle issued a statement wishing their former skipper and his family all the best for the future.
The Brazilian revealed he has already been welcomed by his new teammates, receiving messages from fellow countryman Gabriel and midfield partner Declan Rice.
Referencing their past on-pitch battles, Rice jokingly messaged him: “Come here and please no more fights—now we’re friends.”
Guimarães leaves behind a remarkable legacy in the North East.
Joining in January 2022 when the Magpies were embroiled in a relegation battle, he became a catalyst for the club’s resurgence under Eddie Howe.
During his tenure, he helped Newcastle secure Champions League qualification twice in 2023 and 2025.
He also famously captained the side to the 2025 Carabao Cup victory against Liverpool, ending the club’s 70-year wait for a major domestic trophy.
