Malang City Sends Humanitarian Aid to Flood Victims in Sumatra

Malanginspirasi.com – The Mayor of Malang City, Wahyu Hidayat, officially flagged off the first batch of humanitarian aid for victims of severe flooding in Aceh, West Sumatra, and North Sumatra on Sunday,  December 7, 2025, at the Kartini Imperial Building.

The aid, collected from the people of Malang Raya, reached a total value of Rp1.9 billion.

Head of Malang City Social Services Agency, Donny Sandito Widoyoko, stated that the collection process demonstrated the deep concern of Malang’s residents toward fellow Indonesians affected by disaster.

“The total aid collected is valued at Rp1.9 billion, entirely pure donations from the public. This includes 12 tons of rice, around 4,000 cartons of instant noodles, 775 packs of cooking oil, 1 ton of sugar, and many other items,” he explained.

The contributions came from a wide range of sources. Local government offices in Malang City, private companies, residents of Malang City, as well as people from Malang Regency and Batu City.

This cross-regional solidarity highlights that compassion remains strong when rapid and coordinated response is needed in times of crisis.

First Phase Shipment

The initial shipment consisted of 11 trucks and 2 pickup vehicles that departed by road to Abdulrachman Saleh Airport, from where the aid will be flown to the affected provinces.

Items sent in the first phase include:

  • Basic food supplies (sembako)
  • Usable clothing
  • Mattresses and bedding
  • Medicines
  • Hygiene kits
  • Sanitary pads

In addition, Rp34 million in cash donations will be channeled through BAZNAS (National Zakat Agency) as humanitarian funds.

Mayor Wahyu Hidayat emphasized that the first batch focuses on meeting the most urgent needs of survivors.

“This first wave prioritizes immediate necessities such as food, decent clothing, mattresses, and medicine for those who are ill,” he affirmed.

Wahyu also expressed heartfelt gratitude to all residents of Malang Raya.

“I extend my deepest thanks to everyone in Malang Raya who cared and showed concern for our brothers and sisters struck by this disaster,” he said.

According to Mayor Wahyu, this spirit of gotong royong (mutual cooperation) reflects the true character of Malang’s people. The spirit that never staying silent when fellow citizens face emergencies.
