Malanginspirasi.com – On Thursday, March 27, 2025, the first Mentari Mart outlet was officially opened within the Universitas Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) campus. This mega retail initiative spearheaded by the Central Leadership (PP) of Muhammadiyah aims to bolster the economic ecosystem associated with the Muhammadiyah organization.
The event was marked by a soft launch that attracted several prominent figures, including Prof. Muhadjir Effendy, the Chairman of the Economic Sector of the Central Leadership of Muhammadiyah and Chairman of UMM Board of Trustees (BPH), Prof. Fauzan, the Secretary of the BPH and Deputy Minister of Higher Education and Technology, and Prof. Nazaruddin Malik, the UMM Rector and economic advisory board member of Muhammadiyah.
During the soft launch, Prof. Muhadjir outlined plans for future outlets, signaling that more locations would open across various regions. This inauguration serves as an opportunity to identify areas for improvement through public feedback, ultimately enhancing service quality at the outlet.
Within the UMM environment alone, there are plans for more than five additional similar stores to emerge within various business units of the campus.
“We are also in the process of constructing a larger outlet, which we hope will be inaugurated by Prof. Haedar, the Chairman of the Central Leadership of Muhammadiyah. At this stage, we are eager to gather public input regarding the quality of services provided by Mentari Mart. We hope that this soft launch, taking place during the month of Ramadan, brings additional blessings,” stated Prof. Muhadjir.

Professor Nazaruddin further elaborated that the larger Mentari Mart outlet at UMM is expected to be completed within three weeks, targeting an April opening for public use. This new location will even feature a coffee corner.
The university plans to eventually operate at least six Mentari Mart locations, strategically situated across various UMM business ventures, including the Rinjani Workshop, UMM Hospital, and in Karang Ploso, Kabupaten Malang.
Interestingly, there is significant interest from various regions throughout East Java to establish similar outlets.
This expansion, according to Professor Nazaruddin, is intended to create employment opportunities for the local community and empower the people, ultimately fostering benevolence and benefits.
The ambitious goal is to establish between 100 and 150 Mentari Mart outlets within the year.
