Partnering with UPM and NCU, UB Boosts Double and Joint Degree Programs

EN.MALANGINSPIRASI.COM – Universitas Brawijaya (UB) hosted the Seminar for Graduate Schools on Monday, February 2, 2026, at the Algoritma Building in the Faculty of Computer Science (FILKOM).

The seminar, themed “Driving Global Competitiveness in Graduate Education Through Double Degree,” featured a range of speakers from government ministries, as well as domestic and international academics.

Vice Rector for Academic Affairs, Prof. Dr. Ir. Imam Santoso, M.P., stated that the international seminar and workshop aimed to gather valuable insights from stakeholders and policymakers.

“That’s why we invited speakers from the ministry and the director of LPDP,” he told the media.

Prof. Imam also explained that participants would receive detailed information on scholarship opportunities related to double and joint degree programs.

“We already have collaborations for double degrees. All the speakers will provide various insights that we can use to accelerate policies and work programs for developing graduate studies with double or joint degrees,” he elaborated.

During the event, two international speakers were present: representatives from Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) and National Central University (NCU) in Taiwan.

“With UPM, we have signed an MoU and MoE to implement a double degree program,” said Prof. Imam.

“With NCU, we also have an existing double degree collaboration,” he added.

He further noted that graduate students would benefit significantly from these programs.

“What’s particularly appealing about UPM is that students don’t need to pay tuition fees of 30 to 40 million rupiah per semester. They only pay their UKT at UB but can earn two degrees,” he emphasized.

Joint Degrees and Double Degrees

Meanwhile, the event committee chair, Dr. Aji Setyanto, M.Litt., explained that the seminar was attended by leaders of graduate schools from across Indonesia, as well as heads of graduate programs from all faculties at Universitas Brawijaya.

“This seminar aims to provide a deep understanding of joint degree and double degree programs,” he said.

It is hoped that participants can formulate concrete steps to implement double degree programs.

“I hope we can all learn about joint and double degrees. We expect this program to strengthen collaborations and serve as a solid foundation for advancing the internationalization of graduate education in Indonesia,” he clarified.
