Safied Crochet Dolls, Fostering Young Adults’ Appreciation for Handmade Crafts in Malang

Malanginspirasi.com – “Safied,” a brand of crochet dolls, stands as a testament to the burgeoning creativity within Malang’s small and medium enterprise (SME/UMKM) sector.

Eko Handayani, the owner of Safied, has grown increasingly passionate about expanding her handcrafted business, as she skillfully transforms crochet into charming dolls.

Initially, this micro and small business owner from Malang sought to explore her skills while simultaneously creating job opportunities.

“Our business is now in its sixth year, and we have employed three staff members,” Eko shared with Malang Inspirasi.

“After production, sales are conducted both online through marketplaces and offline via bazaars, exhibitions, and events,” she added.

Eko emphasized the significant positive impact her business has had on the surrounding community.

“I have been teaching several local mothers, and moving forward. We plan to involve them as partners in fulfilling our production needs,” she said.

Operating the Safied crocheted doll business from her home on Jalan Bandara Palmerah, Cemorokandang in Kota Malang, Eko consistently participates in various events.

“Important activities include engaging in entrepreneurship programs at the Universitas Negeri Malang (UM) and receiving mentorship through Kominfo UMKM Level Up 2024,” she explained.

Safied products have frequently received accolades.

“Among other recognitions, we won ‘Best Booth 2024’ at the cooperative department’s anniversary exhibition and secured funding,” affirmed the Surabaya-born entrepreneur.

Expands Product Branding

Eko acknowledged that her enterprise’s benefits extend beyond the financial realm.

“Through UMKM activities, I have expanded my network and increased product branding, making Safied better known among consumers,” she remarked.

Safied’s product line is not limited to decorative crochet dolls but also includes keychains.

In addition to the crochet dolls, the brand offers various beautiful resin accessories such as earrings, necklaces, and other attractive items.

Looking ahead, Eko identified challenges in enhancing the craftsmanship process of all handmade products, including improving packaging aesthetics and creating a product logo.

As a mother of two daughters, she aspires to address current business shortcomings.

“My plans include establishing a dedicated outlet and opening a workshop to introduce handmade products more effectively to younger generations,” she concluded.
