Tarik Biberovic Explains Why the Timing Was Right for His NBA Jump at Dallas Mavericks

en.malanginspirasi.com – Tarik Biberovic, originally held by the Memphis Grizzlies, ultimately acquired by the Dallas Mavericks as part of the trade for Santi Aldama.

He actually had opportunities to leap across the Atlantic in previous seasons, the stars didn’t align until now.

Dallas subsequently signed the European standout to a two-year, $6 million contract featuring a second-year team option.

Making the move was a significant financial decision for Biberovic, who personally shelled out over $1 million to cover his European buyout clause.

Following a recent practice session, he reflected on what pushed him to make the leap now:

“Well, I feel myself marinated. I had the opportunity also last year, but I actually gave up a lot to be here,” Biberovic said after practice on Friday.

“I had very good opportunities, like back over there, also from different NBA teams. But me personally… I feel I’m ready for this challenge, because mentally I’m way more mature, and I know how to be on the court, and I’ll give my best to earn every single minute of it.”

Although his calling card is his perimeter shooting, Biberovic recognizes that surviving in the NBA requires a well-rounded skill set.

“Everybody knows I came here as a shooter, but to stay on the court you have to do multiple things. Obviously, it’s an everyday fight,” Biberovic also said.

“We’re here together to make each other better, but still you’re competing every single day, and that’s the beauty of it. Me personally, I have a good size, and I’m trying to bring the physicality, defense, rebounding, high energy, and also basketball IQ.”

His defensive effort has already caught the attention of new head coach Dusty May, who noted that Biberovic’s transition on the defensive end has exceeded initial expectations as he adjusts to a less rigid, more fluid style of play compared to his previous European team.

Dallas struggled significantly from behind the arc last season, making Biberovic’s elite marksmanship a welcome addition.

If he can continue to impress with his defensive engagement, physical play, and decision-making, he could challenge guards like Max Christie and Zaccharie Risacher for rotational minutes.

While Christie remains the frontrunner for the starting shooting guard spot, Biberovic’s veteran experience in Europe alongside the improved spatial freedom of NBA offenses could give him a distinct advantage.
