en.malanginspirasi.com – England manager Thomas Tuchel has voiced his unease about the mandatory hydration breaks that FIFA implements during the World Cup 2026.
Ahead of England’s second Group L clash against Ghana in Boston on Wednesday evening (21:00 BST), Tuchel, 52, noted that the forecast predicted cool and rainy conditions, yet the breaks would still be enforced.
Supporters had already shown their disapproval during England’s opener against Croatia in Dallas, jeering when play was halted inside the air‑conditioned stadium.
Tuchel explained that while he had previously experienced short cooling breaks in extreme heat, the current format feels disruptive.

“It interrupts and reshapes the rhythm of a football match more than I expected. Instead of being occasional, now it’s applied universally, and it almost divides the game into four quarters,” he said as quoted on BBC.
FIFA recently scrapped a second‑half hydration break during France’s 3‑0 win over Iraq after severe weather forced a two‑hour suspension, highlighting the ongoing debate about their necessity.
From a coaching perspective, Tuchel admitted the pauses allow him to regroup with his players, but he stressed that football loses something essential when momentum is broken.
“The game builds its character through continuous play. Without interruptions, it’s a battle that unfolds naturally over time. That’s what makes the sport beautiful,” he concluded.
