en.malanginspirasi.com  – Bank Indonesia noted that the use of QRIS several countries abroad has continued to show growth since its first implementation in 2022.

As of July 2026, total QRIS transactions between countries by users from Indonesia and partner countries reached 25.67 million transactions with a value of IDR 7.63 trillion.

Bank Indonesia Deputy Governor Filianingsih Hendarta stated that of the total transactions, users from partner countries in Indonesia recorded 21 million transactions worth IDR 5.90 trillion.

Meanwhile, Indonesian users in partner countries recorded 4.67 million transactions worth IDR 1.73 trillion.

“The achievement of inter-country QRIS transactions demonstrates the growing use of QRIS as a means of cross-border payments. The transaction value of users from partner countries in Indonesia reached IDR 5.90 trillion, IDR 4.17 trillion higher than transactions by Indonesian users in partner countries,” Filianingsih said in a press release as quoted from Info Publik, Tuesday, September 22nd, 2026.

This achievement demonstrates that the use of inter-country QRIS increasingly supports cross-border economic activity, particularly through the tourism and trade sectors.

The convenience of digital payments provides an alternative transaction method for international tourists while in Indonesia and supports the activities of businesses serving tourists.

As of July 2026, inter-country QRIS connectivity has been expanded to Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Japan, South Korea, and China.

This connectivity expansion expands the reach of people from partner countries who can use QRIS for payments in Indonesia, as well as Indonesians conducting transactions in partner countries.

The growth of inter-border QRIS transactions is also supported by the expanding domestic QRIS ecosystem. As of July 2026, QRIS was used by 45.46 million merchants, 96.69 percent of which are MSMEs.

With this expanding domestic ecosystem, Indonesian MSMEs have a greater opportunity to accept transactions from international tourists through inter-border QRIS without the need to implement a new payment system.

This simultaneously expands the benefits of payment system digitization for the business sector and supports foreign exchange earnings from international tourist activity.

Going forward, Bank Indonesia will continue to expand inter-border QRIS connectivity with potential partner countries, particularly those with strong economic, trade, tourism, and mobility ties with Indonesia.

“Bank Indonesia will continue to strengthen cross-border payment connectivity by adapting its implementation to the characteristics of each partner country. This step is part of Bank Indonesia’s commitment to realizing a fast, easy, affordable, secure, and reliable payment system, while simultaneously strengthening economic and financial inclusion and Indonesia’s economic connectivity at the regional and global levels,” said Filianingsih.
