en.malanginspirasi.com — The Faculty of Science, Technology, and Mathematics (FSTeM) at Brawijaya University (UB) is strengthening its trajectory toward globally competitive research through the 14th Basic and Applied Science International Conference (BASIC) 2026.
Bringing together academics and experts from institutions across five countries, the international scientific forum is held on October 15–16, 2026, at The Jien Suites Resort & Convention, Malang, East Java.
This year’s conference carries the theme “Advancing Mathematics, Sciences, and Technology for Resilient and Sustainable Development.”
Keynote speakers at the forum include Assoc. Prof. Wan Mohd Nuzul Hakimi bin W Salleh from Sultan Idris Education University (Malaysia), Danang Teguh Qoyyimi, Ph.D., from Universitas Gadjah Mada (Indonesia), and Assist. Prof. Kento Kasahara from Osaka University (Japan).

The participation of these experts enriches interdisciplinary perspectives while solidifying the conference’s position as a hub for knowledge exchange and international research networking.
The Dean of FSTeM UB, Prof. Sukir Maryanto, S.Si., M.Si., Ph.D., emphasized that BASIC is designed to be far more than just a venue for paper presentations.

“The aim of BASIC is not merely at paper presentations. It is directed toward generating concrete, actionable collaborations through joint research initiatives, capacity-building programs for faculty, and quality enhancements in postgraduate education,” said Prof. Sukir Maryanto.
As an initial step, FSTeM UB is establishing institutional partnerships through the signing of Memoranda of Understanding (MoU) and Memoranda of Agreement (MoA).
The collaborative agenda encompasses joint proposal mentoring, cross-university research execution, and exploring double-degree programs for doctoral studies.
These initiatives can broaden UB researchers’ access to international academic networks, increase research funding opportunities, and strengthen human resource capacity in science and technology.
Furthermore, FSTeM UB is driving a new strategy for research dissemination by directly involving editors-in-chief and publishers of reputable international scientific journals.
Through this approach, researchers gain direct insights into global publication standards and manuscript quality enhancement.
Selected articles will be directed to globally reputable journals aligned with their respective scopes and review processes, moving beyond conventional conference proceedings.
Strategic Integration with International Forums
Looking ahead, FSTeM UB plans to expand the scope of BASIC by holding it in conjunction with other international scientific forums.
They include the International Conference on Chemistry and Material Science (IC2MS) and the Indonesia–France bilateral research partnership network, LMI-LSI.
This integration aims to broaden collaborative horizons, convene researchers across diverse disciplines, and foster sustainable joint research agendas.
By bridging foundational science, applied research, high-impact publications, and international partnerships, FSTeM UB seeks to elevate BASIC into a catalyst for academic excellence.
The project of the conference is to serve as a vital gateway for strengthening a research ecosystem capable of producing innovation, boosting the competitiveness of Indonesian scientists, and supporting national technological self-reliance.
The 14th BASIC 2026 conference is supported by Sunday Travel and Bank Mandiri Brawijaya Branch.
