Berton SP Panjaitan, Acting Head of the Data, Information, and Disaster Communication Center at the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB), stated that this assistance is part of the cooperation between Indonesia and Japan in addressing forest and land fires.
“Regarding the cooperation between Indonesia and Japan, the three helicopters are set to arrive soon. We have received information that they will arrive here on the 10th [of September],” said Berton during the press conference on the forest and land fire response update in Indonesia on Monday (August 31, 2026).

Initial coordination has taken place and will continue to be consolidated until the three helicopters arrive in Indonesia.
However, BNPB is still awaiting further information regarding the operational locations and the duration of the helicopters’ deployment.
“We will provide accurate data updates later; for now, we do not yet have clearer information,” said Berton.
BNPB will continue to coordinate with relevant parties to ensure readiness for the deployment of this assistance, including determining operational locations and support for fire-fighting efforts in affected areas.
