en.malanginspirasi.com — The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) conducted a sting operation (Operasi Tangkap Tangan or OTT) targeting officials within the National Disaster Management Authority (BNPB) on Tuesday (13/10).

A total of 14 individuals were apprehended during the operation across the Jakarta, Bogor, Depok, Tangerang, and Bekasi (Jabodetabek) region.

Among those detained are BNPB Main Secretary  Rustian, a Commitment-Making Officer  as well as representatives from the private sector.

During the raid, KPK investigators seized evidence comprising cash and gold bars. KPK Spokesperson Budi Prasetyo confirmed the seizure, stating that preliminary estimates place the cash at approximately IDR 1.4 billion.

“The KPK team secured 14 individuals, including the Main Secretary, PPK, and private parties,” Budi stated in a preliminary briefing late Tuesday night around 11:00 PM local time.

“In addition, investigators confiscated physical evidence consisting of cash initially calculated at IDR 1.4 billion along with gold bars,” he continued.

The sting operation is linked to alleged corruption in the procurement of goods and services within BNPB.

However, anti-graft investigators have yet to detail whether the procurement in question pertains to specific disaster management projects—such as forest fires (Karhutla) or regional disasters in Sumatra—or other agency initiatives.

BNPB Pledges Cooperation

In response to the sting, BNPB issued an official written statement affirming its commitment to respecting the ongoing legal process.

The agency emphasized that it will remain fully cooperative, granting access to all necessary data and information required by investigators in accordance with the law.

BNPB leadership explicitly stated that it will not intervene in the KPK’s investigation in any form.

Furthermore, BNPB leadership has instructed the Main Inspectorate (Inspektorat Utama) to conduct an internal review and secure official documents as part of internal oversight.

BNPB urged its personnel to remain focused on disaster management duties without being disrupted by the legal proceedings.

Under Indonesian criminal procedure, the KPK has 24 hours from the time of arrest to determine the legal status of the 14 individuals and decide whether to formally name them as suspects.

As of Tuesday night, media outlets and reporters stationed at the KPK Red and White Building in Jakarta are awaiting a official press conference from the anti-graft agency to detail the charges and next steps in the investigation.
