The discussion of the assistance plan took place during a meeting between the President of the Republic of Indonesia, Prabowo Subianto, and the Deputy Prime Minister of Malaysia, Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, in Hambalang, Bogor Regency, West Java Province, on Friday (September 18, 2026).
Prabowo Subianto stated, as quoted from Info Publik, that Ahmad Zahid is an old friend.
During the meeting the two discussed several issues, including Malaysia’s support in handling forest and land fires in Kalimantan.
“He is an old friend, so he visited me, and we discussed various matters; primarily, the Malaysian side offered assistance to help us tackle forest fires in Kalimantan. I responded to this with gratitude and pleasure,” said the President.
According to Prabowo, the assistance will be dispatched in the near future.
Malaysia is set to deploy one aircraft, three helicopters, and a 52-member firefighting team to support efforts to handle forest and land fires in Indonesia.
“This was also done a few years ago, and I am currently formulating comprehensive preventive measures so that this issue does not keep recurring every few years,” the President said.

Prabowo stated that the government is also formulating more comprehensive preventive measures to ensure that forest and land fire incidents do not keep repeating.
He noted that support from friendly nations demonstrates that the issue of forest fires has transboundary impacts.
In addition to Malaysia, Prabowo mentioned that Indonesia has also received assistance from Japan and offers of support from several other countries.
“This is an environmental issue affecting many parties; although the fires are in Indonesia, their impact is felt by our neighbors. So, they wish to assist us, and we welcome that offer,” he continued.
In addition to addressing forest and land fires, Prabowo and Ahmad Zahid exchanged views on opportunities for cooperation in other sectors, including the halal industry.
Prabowo emphasized the importance of maintaining good relations between Indonesia and Malaysia and managing various bilateral issues in a balanced manner.
“We must not let issues that trouble us escalate into blown-out-of-proportion problems. Indonesia and Malaysia are brothers; we must work together and preserve our excellent relationship—that is my view. Thank you,” he asserted.
