en.malanginspirasi.com – President of Indonesia Prabowo Subianto has officially nominated Destry Damayanti as the sole candidate to lead Central Bank (Bank Indonesia), a move widely interpreted by investors as a stabilizer following weeks of market uncertainty.
The nomination, confirmed by State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi on Monday, comes after the abrupt resignation of former governor Perry Warjiyo late last month.
Damayanti, who has been serving as the acting governor, is a long-time veteran of the central bank, having held the position of senior deputy governor since 2019.
The announcement sparked immediate relief in financial circles, where concerns had been mounting regarding the potential for political interference in monetary policy.
With President Prabowo pushing an ambitious economic agenda, including a target to accelerate annual growth to 8 percent investors, had feared the appointment of a political ally who might prioritize growth over the central bank’s core mandates of currency stability and inflation control.
The Indonesian rupiah reacted positively to the news, strengthening by nearly 0.8% against the U.S. dollar on Monday.

Quoted from Bloomberg, analysts suggest that Damayanti, a respected technocrat with deep experience, is viewed as a “continuity candidate” capable of maintaining policy stability.
While the nomination is a significant step toward filling the leadership vacuum, Damayanti must still undergo a confirmation process in the House of Representatives (DPR).
Given that parliament is currently controlled by the president’s broad coalition, and considering that no presidential nominee for the central bank role has been rejected since 2008, analysts expect her confirmation to proceed smoothly.
If approved, Damayanti will make history as the first woman to permanently lead Indonesia’s central bank.
The central bank has faced a challenging environment this year, including recent interest rate hikes and broader pressure to bolster the economy amid global headwinds.
The market will now turn its attention to the bank’s upcoming policy meeting, scheduled for August 18th to 19th, for signals on how Damayanti intends to navigate the path between supporting the government’s growth objectives and maintaining the bank’s independence.
